2.1A Defining and Understanding the Problem
Key words are -ergonomic issues, boundaries, constraints, data types, algorithms, vairables, IPO, storyboard, data flow diagram, screen designs, project management, feasibilities - operational, technical, schedule, economic
|
| A | B |
| ergonimic issues | The study of the relationship between people and their working environment. |
| boundaries | The delineation between a sytem and its environment. |
| operational feasibility | Consider: What expertise is required to complete the project and whether it is already within the organisation; what resources are required to develop the project; will the organisation be able to support the project in the future; can existing staff be retrained/redistributed. |
| technical feasibility | Consider whether the technology is readily available for the solution; can the product operate on a variety of hardware and software platforms; will the solution continue to operate on new and developing technologies. |
| schedule feasibility | consider: when is the best itme to implement the product, are personnel availaable at he required times; are the required resources available when needed; what if key personnel leave during the development. |
| constraints | A factor that limits the scope of a solution. The solution must comply with the constraints. |
| data types | alphanumeric, integer, date etc |
| algorithms | A series of unambiguous instructions or procedural steps that will result in the solution to a specific problem within a finite time. |
| variables | The symbolic name of an addressed, stored entity in a program that is referred to for later processing. |
| economic feasibility | Whether a project can be afforded or not. This may include considering - development hardware costs, development software costs, development personnel costs and outsourcing costs. |
| project management | The efficient planning, organising and monitoring of projects to ensure that goals are achieved on time and within budget. |
