Homework: 1. Read 168-191 "Floor Show" 2. students are to complete a focus annotation of the text for images/symbols of pleasure (P) and discomfort (D) that originate from Sandi’s Dominican and American life with a 1 sentence justification.

- For example, from pg. 171: “… La Bruja had stopped her mother and the girls in the lobby and spat out that ugly word the kids at school sometimes used: “Spics! Go back to where you came from!”
- I marked this as D because clearly the girls being confronted by such explicit racism just because of their immigrant status reveals the struggles that they were going to encounter in America. Specifically, Sandi notes “that ugly word that kids at school sometimes used,” which suggests that they’re confronted by their “negative aspects” of their origins constantly in everyday life in America, thereby revealing a deep discomfort on the girls part.
