FILM 1 DESCRIPTION: Students explore the fundamental concepts, terminology, techniques, and applications of digital imaging to create original work. The instructional focus will be on film. Students produce digital animated images through the single or combined use of computers, digital cameras, digital video cameras, scanners, photo editing software, drawing and painting software, graphic tablets, printers, new media, and emerging technologies. Through the critique process, students evaluate and respond to their own work and that of their peers to measure artistic growth. The course incorporates hands-on activities, the use of technology, and consumption of art materials. This course will meet graduation requirement for Performing Fine Arts graduation credit. ------------------------ ABOUT FALCON COVE FILM Mr. Slowik (Fine Arts chair) and I started Film 6 years ago as part of an electives expansion initiative here at Falcon Cove. Our program has evolved to now include Film 2 classes, Film Club and our annual awards and screening Festival. Enrollment has doubled since the 1st year and continues to grow. In addition to reviewing classic and modern film, we are production intensive. We have a subscription to the Adobe Creative Cloud suite with a computer for each and every Film student. Projects range from the simple slideshow to fully conceived and produced short films. ------------------------ FILM 1 & 2 HENGGE/SCHRAGER CLASS INFO & SUPPLY LIST Film 1 & 2 is a High School Credit course. This is a rigorous class that many students find extremely rewarding and memorable…provided the student gives the effort and does the work! A successful Film student must demonstrate ability to: Meet deadlines, work co-operatively in groups, be dependable, be on time to class, attend regularly, employ what is learned into the filmmaking projects, work hard, try new strategies and be willing to make mistakes. Required supplies: 1) A Film class dedicated FLASH DRIVE with 16 GB MINIMUM storage + Lanyard attachment Rationale: Students will be utilizing portable storage to save their projects. It is imperative that the flash drive must contain at least 16 GB of space as their projects will be large in size. The flash drive AND the lanyard should have the student’s full name, Film Teacher and period # written on it so that it is easily identifiable in the event it is left behind- which can happen in this setting. 2) A dedicated FILM notebook with pockets and loose-leaf paper + writing instruments 3) Tripod, camera/smartphone 4) Access to film media for rental (i.e. Netflix/ Hulu/ Xfinity subscription, iTunes etc.) (for home) Recommended: ADOBE PREMIERE 2020 (for home editing) In class, we have a fair amount of tripods, clapboards, green screens and basic digital cameras as well as our wonderful editing suite with a computer for each student to use while on campus. We have purchased a license for the entire Adobe Creative Cloud Suite for the students to utilize while in school. The flagship program is ADOBE PREMIERE 2018 (for editing). Students soon discover that editing can be a VERY LONG PROCESS and realize that having this software at home can be very beneficial since school time is limited. Many of our students utilize their own smartphones as their primary cameras. Additionally, there is an endless assortment of accessories the students may be interested in purchasing for their own use beyond what we have in our department (steady-cam stabilizers, jibs, lenses, etc.) We can provide a place to store this equipment of theirs when asked- but we cannot be held responsible for their items. In the event that a student is absent during the presentation of a film, it is the student’s responsibility to screen the film at home within an acceptable timeframe so that they may do the work/ take the quiz based on the film upon their return. See you at the movies!
