About me
A South Dakota native, native to the Black Hills, I grew up in Spearfish, SD graduating from Spearfish High School and Black Hills State University.   My two sons were in school full time before I started to teach even though I had my certificate to teach just 4 years out of high school.  I substituted for 2 years and then taught reading the first year.  It was a couple of years before I started teaching keyboarding and computers.

My husband, Dave and I have been married for nearly 40 years.  We raised our family at Angostura, water skiing and just playing in the water in the summertime and snow skiing/snowboarding in the wintertime.

Greg, my oldest son, graduated from SDSM&T with a degree in Geological Engineering and is living and working in Tucson, AZ.  Scott, my youngest son, graduated from NSU with a Business degree and is a manager at Target.  He is married to Bridget, a school psychologist, and they work and live in Rapid City.  They have one daughter.

In my free time, I love to knit, crochet, and read.  Walking is my favorite form of exercise.  I love animals, even though I don't have any of my own; my lifestyle doesn't permit it right now.  My husband and I enjoy golfing together, although he is much better than I am because he "lives" to golf.

I teach because I believe that I can make a difference in the life of my students. It is important to me to  have a positive impact on students to do their best and not to settle for anything less than the best.

I am in my 24th year of teaching.  I take a class now and then because I love teaching and am always looking for new ways to inspire my students.  I am excited to be given the opportunity to grow intellectually.

Even though many people feel that teachers get their summers off, we are constantly using that time to develop curriculum that will be beneficial and exciting for our students.

Favorite Quotes:  We know what we are, but know not what we may be.  --Wm. Shakespeare
The object of teaching a child is to enable the child to get along without the teacher.
Leave as little to chance as possible.  PREPARATION is the key to success.

TEACHING STUDENTS to be successful is my passion. When one method doesn't work, I will try another as all students do not learn the same way.  In my world, LD has always stood for Learning Differently.  I feel that all students are capable of learning.  Some may take longer to learn a given than others, but all can learn, and sometimes the information needs to be approached differently.  For those that need more time to finish an assignment, my room is open to them after school for extra help.

My goal is to strive to be friendly, fair, firm, and consistent.

Being a teacher at North Middle School is the best thing that ever happened to me.  It all started with me not really wanting to be at North; that was when I was substituting.  After my first day here, I knew that this was the school that I WANTED to be a part of.  I loved the students and I had a principal that believed in me and my ability to teach.  It has been 24 years now and I can't imagine being anywhere else.  I love what I do. (That is not to say that I don't ever have frustrations, I do, but most days I look forward to the challenge.)

My greatest reward doesn't come in monetary value, it comes when a student finally "gets it", and/or realizes that he/she is doing well and the pride they show when they are successful.
