When you come across a word that is unfamiliar to you, one trick you can use is Connotation/Denotation.
Denotation: The literal textbook definition of a word.

Connotation: The emotional connection or feeling you get from a word.
As you read each of the three word pairs, ask yourself: Does ?? have a positive or negative connotation?
