Chapter 7 - Pronoun-Antecedent Disagreement and Sexist Language
For each of the sentences shown, two problems may exist: 1. Sexist language 2. Pronouns disagree with their antecedents in number The best way to correct sexist language is as follows (from most to least desirable method): 1. Make the subject plural and use the pronoun "their." 2. Substitute an article (a, an, the) for the offending pronoun. 3. Use "his or her" when the two methods above won't work satisfactorily.
