KM8: I COMMAND you to play this game!

Learn & practice giving commands auf Deutsch and the modal verbs!

Read the explanation below. Look at p. 224 in your BUCH for extra help if you need it.

Explanation:

For any command, when you are telling someone what to do, you start with the VERB, just like English. Shut the door! Pick up your clothes! Do your homework!

If you are telling someone you know well to do something, this is the "DU COMMAND FORM." All you have to do is use the "du" form of the verb WITHOUT the "st" ending. So, the "st" falls off! You also don't need to say "du." See example below:
STATEMENT: Du deckst den Tisch. (You set the table).
COMMAND: Deck den Tisch! (Set the table!)

Use the "IHR COMMAND FORM" when you are telling more than one person at a time what to do. The IHR form, is just the IHR form of the verb. You don't need to say "ihr." For example:

STATEMENT: Ihr spielt mit uns. (Y'all play with us).
COMMAND: Spielt mit uns! (Play with us!)
