BEING/LINKING VERBS
A BEING/LINKING verb shows a state of being. It links the subject with the action in the sentence. IS and ARE are called BEING verbs. We use those verbs to tell about something that is happening right now. Use IS to tell about one person, place, or thing. EXAMPLE: VICTORIA IS DANCING. Use ARE to tell about more than one person, place, or thing. EXAMPLE: JACKIE AND ETHAN ARE RUNNING Use ARE with the word YOU. EXAMPLES: YOU ARE FUNNY. ARE YOU HAPPY? Some verbs that are ACTION verbs in some sentences turn into BEING/LINKING verbs in other sentences: These flowers SMELL pretty. Find the linking verb in each sentence.
