Ethyl Alcohol Pathway

Yeast and some bacteria can live indefinitely under anaerobic conditions by generating ethyl alcohol and carbon dioxide. Just like the lactic acid pathway, the process of reducing pyruvic acid by accepting the hydrogen and high energy electrons from NADH allows NAD+ to be regenerated. The NADH can then be used to keep the process of glycolysis going. Unlike other organisms, anaerobic organisms are able to survive on 2 ATP per molecule of glucose.
