Lewis Structures and Molecule Patterns - Matching 2020
Background: Lewis structures models represent molecules. Each element in a molecule is represented by its chemical symbol. Electrons are represented as dots. Lines are drawn between atoms to show bonds; each line/bond connects two single electrons. Excess electrons are represented as pairs of dots and are placed next to the atoms.
Gilbert Newton Lewis (October 25, 1875 – March 23, 1946) was an American physical chemist known for the discovery of the covalent bond and his concept of electron pairs; his Lewis dot structures and other contributions to valence bond theory have shaped modern theories of chemical bonding. Lewis Structure Drawings are models that are used to represent molecules.
Directions: Look for patterns and match what you see. Repeat at least 3 times.
