Types of Spiritual Strongholds

There are many different types of strongholds. Some of them are described below.

Personal strongholds
Personal strongholds are those that deal directly with individuals on a personal level.

Example: An unemployed woman might think she is worthless.
Example: A woman might become a stripper because she fears she is not able to provide for her family without extra money.

Strongholds of the mind are also personal strongholds.

Example: The devil may tell a man that his wife is having an affair.  He believes it and it continues to trouble him even though is not true. He may even file for divorce based on the lie the devil told him and his mind believed it.

Ideological strongholds
Ideological strongholds are those based on wrong assumptions.

Example: A Christian may not tithe thinking he doesn’t have a sufficient income. He plans to start tithing as soon as his income level rises. But it never happens because he is waiting for God to bless him first. That is wrongful thinking.

Example: Buddhist and Hindu devotees, hesitate to fully commit to Christ even after experiencing divine love and power simply because they think doing so is insulting their generational and ancestral beliefs. Strongholds are based on wrong thinking and false beliefs.

Social strongholds
Strongholds in this case are based on social behavior.

Example: Christians may indulge in social drinking at parties because want to be accepted by their friends who might not be Christians.

Example: Teenagers give into peer pressure to be socially acceptable.

Physical strongholds

Physical strongholds keep people isolated them from the rest of the world.

Spiritual strongholds
Spiritual strongholds isolate people from God.
