About this Quia Page
This site will be your source for everything you need to know
about your Spanish II class, except for grades, which you’ll find at the MyCCS
site.
If you lose something, you can download it below; if you’re
absent, you are expected to have checked this site and know what we did in
class before you return from your absence. You’ll find advice to help you to
make the homework easier, links to check out that relate what we’re learning to
the real-world, and downloadable audio from some classes so you can re-listen,
or stay caught up during an absence.
10/12, 13: Analyzed first two verses of preterite
song in groups. Completed any make-up tests or quizzes.: Went over test. Homework: In Conjuguemos, do “More ar verbs infinitives only”. Get at least 45 right with at least 90% accuracy for credit. These
verbs are found on Verb Review III.
10/15, 16: Reviewed preterite forms song verses and
conjugated verbs (individually) based on first two verses. Practiced
“it/them/him/her”. Received new vocabulary list (3.1, p.163). To lab to get familiar with one option
for preparing for the quiz class-after-next: classzone.com.
Homework: Begin familiarizing
yourself with p. 163 vocabulary for quiz the class after the class after next.
Step 1: Pronounce words correctly and get familiar with them using the sheet.
Step 2: Using Classzone.com and/or the Quia matching/flashcard activities (below), and/or Quizlet, work on the words until you can go from English to
Spanish consistently and with ease. Step 3: After a few days of studying a
little every day, and only after you
have learned the words, you want to begin the Conjuguemos
activity over these words. You will always find the details about the Conjuguemos activity in the homework the class before the
test. For credit:
Look over clothing and adjectives in sections 12 and 13 of your Repásalas packet. Review the instructions to the
right of section 13 entitled “Using Adjectives”. Prepare for the homework using
the game entitled “Clothing and Adjectives”. Do that until you’re good at it,
and pay attention to the agreement and order of adjectives in the phrases you
match. Then, do the Quia Quiz below entitled
“Clothing and Adjectives”. Get a 90% for credit.
10/21, 22: Sing preterite song, Review how to
conjugate in the preterite based on the third verse
of the song. Practice conjugating in preterite with
cards. It/them/him/her practice, clothing game, ser/estar song and brief explanation. If you would like to access the online textbook through Classzone, your activation code is 2406753-780. Homework: Continue preparing for the
quiz class-after-next over the textbook vocabulary from Unit 3 Lesson 1 of the
textbook (the page I gave you in class, downloadable below). Begin by becoming
familiar with the words and pronouncing them correctly. There are many helpful
activities at Classzone.com
in the “@Home Tutor” section and in the “Online Review”. There is also a Quia matching/flash card activity below entitled “Avancemos 2, 3.1 (p. 163)” if you prefer to use Quia to get familiar with the words. Of course, if you
want, you can make flash cards or just carry around the folded sheet. This is a
lot of words, and these are not necessarily review words—you do not want to wait too long to get started
on this list if you haven’t already!
10/23,
24: Practice vocabulary in lab.
Clothing game. Direct object pronoun practice with Q&A and card passing.
Watched textbook vocabulary video. Homework: Prepare for quiz next class. To help you
prepare, there is a for-credit assignment: (Do not do this Conjuguemos
activity until you’ve gotten good at the basic Quia
and/or Classzone activities over the vocabulary.) The
activity is “Unit 3-1 (p. 163) (Moderate)”. Get a minimum of 20 correct with
90% accuracy for credit. If you’re ambitious, you can try “Unit 3-1 (p. 163)
(Advanced)”.
10/27,
28: Quiz, p. 163 vocabulary, and position and agreement of adjectives. Clothing
game. It/them/him/her, etc. (direct object pronouns) practice with present and preterite verbs. To lab to work on “Preterite,
no y”. Homework: On Conjuguemos, do “Preterite, no
y”. Get 30 right with 90% accuracy for credit.
10/29, 30: Card pass to practice preterite with
direct object (and reflexive) pronouns and infinitive expressions. Clothing
Game. To lab to practice preterite verbs and
infinitive expressions. Ser/Estar
Song. Homework: prepare for test. A
good way to do so is to try to improve your speed and scores on this quarter’s
verb homework, and on any other areas of weakness, until you can do good work
without your materials The test will cover: 1. “More ar/er/ir”
(Verb Review 3) verbs in preterite; using having to, going to, etc. To make sure
you’re ready, you should practice some or all of the following Conjuguemos
activities working up to the last one listed. These are listed in order of
difficulty: 24, 25, 27, 26, 57, 61, 76, and 77, which is “Preterite, reg, More ar/er/ir, all infin
phrases”. If you can do #77, you’re definitely ready. 2. Clothing vocabulary (Repásalas 12 and Avancemos 3.1) and 3. adjectives (Repásalas 13) along with order and agreement of
adjectives. 4. A
review of pointing words and possessives (Apréndelas 16, 17). 5.
All main words (see list below) up to this point (master the Quia “II Main Words for Test 3” activity below).
10/31, 11/3: Test 4 over “More ar/er/ir” (Verb Review 3) verbs in
present and event past (preterite); using having to, going to, etc. from “Preterite, reg, More ar/er/ir, all infin phrases”. Clothing vocabulary (Repásalas 12 and Avancemos 3.1) and
adjectives (Repásalas 13) along with order and agreement of
adjectives. A review of pointing words and possessives (Apréndelas 16, 17). All main words (see list below) up to this point (master
the Quia “II Main Words for Test 3” activity below).
After test we worked on the other two types of verbs
in the Preterite Forms song—the stem-changers and the
“y” preterites. Homework:
Prepare for a quiz class-after-next over the Spanish spellings, locations,
and capitals (and Spanish spellings of the capitals) of the Spanish-speaking
countries. The activity entitled “Countries and Capitals” below will prepare
you for the quiz. If you need a more basic review, you can go back to the
previous grading period and use those activities, including the links at the
bottom of that page.

11/4, 5: Ser/estar song
and brief explanation, Irregular Preterites song, and Regular Preterites
song. Practiced passing cards with d.o.
pronouns, with and without infinitive phrases. To lab to work on “Verbs that
Require an Object I”. Homework: Use
the sheet I gave you and/or Quia/Classzone
activities to begin preparing for a quiz three classes from now over vocabulary
on p. 55.
11/6, 7: Countries and capitals quiz.
Went over test. Practiced passing white and blue cards. In lab, “Verbs that
require an object II”. Homework: Continue
practicing for vocab quiz class-after-next. Say them correctly in your head
every time as you practice! Use the sheet, flash cards, Classzone,
or the Quia activity below until you know the words
quickly English-to-Spanish. Don’t forget to narrow down the difficult words on
different panels of the vocabulary sheet! When you’re good at flash
cards/matching, you can begin working on the Conjuguemos activity entitled
“Unit 1:1 (p.55)” which will be due for credit on the day of the quiz.
11/10, 11: Watched p. 55 vocabulary introduction video and talked about
airports. Card passing: single-verb, double-verb, past. To lab for “Verbs that
require an object III” and/or “Verbs that Require an Object Level III (w/preterites)”. Homework:
Continue practicing for vocab quiz next class. For credit, do the Conjuguemos
activity entitled “Unit 1:1 (p.55)”, with at least 20 right and 90% accuracy.
11/12, 13: Quiz over vocabulary on p. 55. Re-cap of all we’ve learned about
direct object/reflexive pronouns. Board race game. Songs: Preterite,
Ser/Estar, Reflexives. Homework: Test 5 next class, over Main
Words 3 (same as last two tests), verbs that require a direct object,
vocabulary from 1.1, p. 55, and countries and capitals. Here’s what you should
do to make sure you’re ready.

Test 3” (below)

an object (pret conj only)”
in Conjuguemos. This will give you
practice on the preterite forms (including
stem-changing and spelling-changing) of the verbs that will appear on the test,
without having to worry about pronouns.
3.
“Verbs that require an
object 3 (with preterite)” in Conjuguemos. Notice that some of
the verbs are present, and others are past. You have to pay attention to past
or present of the English verb. Consult your Past Tense Sheet (the song) for
help with the preterite forms.
4.
You’ve already had the
chance to get credit for this, but it will definitely help you prepare for the
test: “Unit
1-1 (p. 55)” in Conjuguemos. To make sure you’re ready, do it until you can
score in the 90s without your materials.

There will be some Spanish
sentences in which you will have to fill-in the blank with a current vocabulary
word. You can practice this if you’d like on Classzone.

11/14, 17: Test 5. To lab to work on next set of vocabulary words: 1.2, p. 79. Homework: Practice for vocab quiz
class-after-next. It’s a lot of words, but this quiz will be much easier than
what you’re used to—it will basically be matching. To prepare, you can use the
two Quia activities below entitled “Avancemos 2 1.2 p. 79” and “Vocabulary 1.2 (p. 79)”,
activities on Classzone, and of course, your
vocabulary sheet. You can see and practice the actual quiz as much as you’d
like (it will be taken in the lab on Quia) below: “II
1.2 Vocabulary (vacation)”. There will be a lot of vocabulary through the end
of the semester, so stay on top of it!
11/18, 19: Ser/Estar song. First two ser/estar fill-in-the-blank stories. Talk about transition
from “Verbs That Require an Object” to “Reflexives”. Irregular Preterite song. Reflexives song. Backward Verbs song. Homework: Practice for vocab quiz next
class. It’s a lot of words, but this quiz will be much easier than what you’re
used to—it will basically be matching. To prepare, you can use the two Quia activities below entitled “Avancemos
2 1.2 p. 79” and “Vocabulary 1.2 (p. 79)”, activities on Classzone,
and of course, your vocabulary sheet. You can see and practice the actual quiz
as much as you’d like (it will be taken in the lab on Quia)
below: “II 1.2 Vocabulary (vacation)”.
11/20, 21: Quiz over vocabulary p. 79. Ser/Estar story. Go over tests. Practiced reflexives by passing
cards. Backward verbs song. Homework: Prepare for a quiz
(Spanish-to-English) next time over vocabulary from Unit 2 lesson 1, p. 109 (sheet
was passed out in class). Use your sheet, Classzone,
and Quia, to become acquainted with this vocabulary
The Conjuguemos
activity “Unit 2-1 (p. 109)” will be due for credit as well. Get at least 15
right with 90% accuracy for credit.
11/24, 25: Quiz, p. 109 vocabulary (Spanish-to-English). Ser/Estar game. Reflexive verb song, and practice reflexive
verbs (Verb Review III). Discussed 3Ps Sheet, Exam Review Sheet, and received
p. 133 vocabulary sheet. Homework: prepare
for a quiz (English-to-Spanish) three classes from now over p. 133 vocabulary
(English-to-Spanish) along with a review of all this semester’s textbook
vocabulary (Spanish-to-English): p. 55, p. 79, p. 109, and p. 163. Classzone and Quia activities are
available below to help you review the words.
11/26, 12/1: Ser/Estar

mastered the Quia and/or Classzone
activities over the 2-2 vocabulary, do “Unit 2-2 p. 133” Conjuguemos
activity, which is due on the day of the quiz. Get 20 right with 90% accuracy
for credit.
12/2, 3: Worked on Backward Verbs Level 2 on Conjuguemos
in lab. Practice verbs that require an object and reflexives. Same songs. Homework: Prepare for quiz next time
over p. 133 vocabulary (English-to-Spanish) and
a review (Spanish-to-English) of all previous textbook vocabulary sheets. If
you haven’t already, do “Unit 2-2 p. 133” Conjuguemos
activity. Get 20 right with 90% accuracy for credit. Put finishing touches on your 3Ps project.
12/4, 5: Quiz, p. 133 vocabulary (English-to-Spanish) and a review (Spanish-to-English) of all previous textbook
vocabulary sheets. All relevant songs. Conversation about the weekend. Work on
reflexives. Practice “Backward Verbs Level 3” in the lab in Conjuguemos. Homework:
Prepare for test class-after-next. See below for details about test. By the time
of the test, you should be able to do the Conjuguemos
activity entitled “Backward Verbs III and VRO III” to make sure you can keep
the backward verbs straight from the reflexives. If you have not yet mastered
Backward Verbs Level III, you should put some time in on that so you will be
able to do “Backward Verbs III and VRO III”” in the lab. “Backward Verbs: All
Levels Step One” may be helpful if you’re having trouble with level three.
Also, the Conjuguemos activity entitled “II Common
Errors to Eliminate” will be good preparation for both the test and the final.
“Preterite, Reflexives” would be a good activity to
make sure you’re good at writing the reflexives in the preterite
tense.
12/8, 9: Talk about test and essay, reflexives cards (focused on yo form daily routine) ,
conversation focused on what you did this morning. Worked as a class on
Backward Verbs III on the projector. To lab to work on Backward Verbs III and
Backward Verbs III and VROs III. Homework:
Finish preparing for the Test 6 over main words, review of entire
semester’s textbook vocabulary (Spanish-to-English), p. 133 textbook vocabulary
(English-to-Spanish), ser/estar,
reflexives from p. 133 and Verb Review III (“Daily Routine” section and divertirse only),
backward verbs, conjugation of all types of regular preterite
forms found in the song (including stem-changers, “y” preterites,
and spelling-changers. You can download a PowerPoint lesson below to help you
with the basics of backward verbs. It’s called “Backward Verbs Lesson”. In Conjuguemos, “Backward Verbs: All Levels Step One” may be
helpful if you’re having trouble with level three. Do “Backward Verbs III and
VRO III” to make sure you can keep the two thought processes separate. Make
sure you do “Preterite, Reflexives” to make sure
you’re good at writing the reflexives in the preterite
tense. Also, the Conjuguemos activity entitled “II
Common Errors to Eliminate” will be good preparation for both the test and the
final.
12/10, 11: Test 6: main words, review of entire semester’s textbook vocabulary
(Spanish-to-English), p. 133 textbook vocabulary (English-to-Spanish), ser/estar,
reflexives from p. 133 and Verb Review III (“Daily Routine” section and divertirse only),
backward verbs, conjugation of all types of regular preterite
forms found in the song. Homework: Final
Exam Review activity on Quia: minimum score of 60%
for credit. Do the activity as many times as you’d like.
Above 60%, what you get is what you get—it will not round up to 100%. It is due
the day of your final.
