Dear Parents,

WEEK OF NOVEMBER 23RD
We have school on Monday and Tuesday only. Homework on Monday only - which is just preparing for the Multicultural Feast. Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

SERVICE PROJECTS FOR NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER

NOVEMBER - Thanksgiving baskets. Our Class did awesome! You are so generous and the children were very excited about helping those less fortunate. We raised over $100 and had 2 huge boxes of food to give to St. Justin's. Thank you for your generosity!

DECEMBER -
Pre-K is supporting the San Jose Mercury News/RAFT, “Gift of Reading” program by asking each student in the St. Lawrence community grades Pre-K – 12 to Donate new or nearly new reading books. Books may be dropped off in the Pre-K Classroom 7a.m. – 6p.m. Monday – Friday from November 16th to December 3rd, 2009 All donations will be given to the “Gift of Reading” program on December 4th. Thank You in advance for supporting this wonderful program!

MULTICULTURAL DAY FEAST!
On Tuesday, November 24th, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades will be having a Multicultural Day Feast. This fun event is an excellent opportunity to learn about each other's heritage, family traditions and favorite food. To make our event a huge success, please send in a traditional food (no NUTs please!) with your student on Tuesday, November 24th. We will be having a potluck style buffet in each classroom. The students will then tour between 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade tasting and learning about foods from around the world.

It’s difficult to explain how much food to send in: we’d like the kids to have a taste of each food. If it’s something like lumpia, you could just cut it in half or thirds. If you are sending in cookies, probably one per child would suffice. If it’s a dish of some sort, such as rice, you may want to send enough for each child to have a tablespoonful. Please don’t feel like you need to feed all three classes. There will be plenty of food! Note: If you would like your food container back, please make sure to put your name on it.

REPORT CARDS
Report cards will go home on Monday, November 30th (not 12/1 as originally stated). Please review it with your child. Once you have reviewed it, please sign it and send it back. I will update it and send it home again for 2nd and 3rd trimester. You shouldn't see any surprises, since progress reports and parent/teacher conferences -- but please feel free to drop me an email if you have any questions or concerns.

CHRISTMAS IN THE LIBRARY
This year's theme is "Where the Wild Things Are". Join us on Wednesday, December 2nd (in your jammies) for a magical evening of fun. Check out the Connections Extension website for details.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT
The Christmas Concert is Wednesday, December 9th at 7PM in the community center (gym). The children are already preparing... they sound beautiful. Remember that it is free HOLIDAY dress for the evening. Boys in slacks and nice shirts or sweaters; girls in holiday wear -- no jeans please.

Best regards,
Miss Suty
