  4. If students are pulled out during class for Friendship Groups it is their responsibility to make up any assignments done in class.
  5. 6/7th Current Events Current Events Directions (Updated 12/7) Articles can be found from a variety reputable newspaper services: SJ Mercury News, SF Chronicle/Gate, BBC, CNN, Times, & MSNBC.
  6. Current Events Rubric page must be attached to every current event. Current Events Rubric
  7. Current Events If students receive a C+ or below on their Current Event they are required to make the changes I made on their assignment, and turn it in immediately the next day for credit. If the student fails to bring the revised version with the previous drafts, the student will have to give up their recess, until it is done.
  8. Middle School Late Work Policy: Students will receive half credit for anything due within two weeks of the day the assignment was due.
  9. Students may use this Vocab. Chart Template when creating their vocabulary charts for each unit. If all sections in this document are filled in, the student should recieve full credit.
  10. Required daily materials for Language Arts: Laptop, pens (blue/black, green/red/purple), highlighters, journal, workbooks: vocabulary, spelling. Textbooks (when asked prior to class by teacher) Grammar & Literature book.
  11. Do you purchase gift cards for friends and family? Scrip Order Form Check out the Scrip Order Form to find out what type of goods give what percentage back to this school. You can purchase scrip gift certificates for teachers as well.
  12. Science Camp: Caritas Creek Monday May 16th-Friday May 20th, 2010 http://www.caritascreek.org/history.html
  13. Ice Cream Sales Every Wednesday (except for minimum days) and Fridays. They are sold for $1.00. All the money fundraised will help lower the cost for every 6th grader going to Science Camp this year. Want to bring a treat for all of your child's friends at school, why not purchase ice cream for everyone?
  14. It is mandatory for all parents to help out with ice cream sales. Either after work by purchasing or on the lunch hour helping sell. If you have any questions about this please contact me.
  15. Computers: If a laptop is left behind students will need to bring a $25.00 check the next day. Please make the checks payable to SLEMS.
  16. Hot Lunch Program: A lunch costs $4.25. For that your child receives and entrée, 2 sides (salad, fruit cup, granola bar etc) and a small drink.
    1. Please remind your child to take all that is provided. Many students walk out with one item and pay full price. Please remind your child what constitutes a full lunch.
    2. If your child takes extra food, like two drinks for example, they will be charged and an extra $1.
  17. 6th/7th Journal Novel Responses: Select 2 or 3 journal novel responses and create 5-10 sentences)

  • Literature Circles

      6/7th Literature Circle Information In both 6th and 7th grade literature circles have begun! What this means is that the students are split up into groups based on what novels they chose. In these groups they are going to read the book together and then meet periodically in class with specific jobs to finish. At the literature circle meetings, the students are to bring the finished product of his/her job and the literature response log. The reading of the novel occurs at home and the job and Literature Response Log are homework.
    6th Grade: Literature Meeting Dates: Students must read the pages prior to the dates below. Students will have time in class each day to read, so please bring your books to class everyday. Literature Logs and the required job duties are do with each date.

    • No extra spaces between the paragraphs and each paragraph must begin indented.

    • Each paragraph is to be indented.
    • Written in pen in best handwriting

    • Heading in the upper left-hand corner
    IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have a computer at home and you do not have the ability to print, either email me a copy or save it to the flash drive and I'll be able to open it up on my computer.

    A proper heading at the top left-hand side of each paper needs to look like the following:

    U = Ungraded (I haven't graded the papers yet, or the papers haven't yet been collected)
