Online Spanish IV
Señora Theis theisr@limashawnee.com 1. If you are the type of person that ignores reading directions, explanations, and examples and immediately delves into the activities to get through things as fast as possible, this is very much NOT the time for that!!! In fact, go back and read that sentence again. Online instruction means I need to rely on you to show your academic maturity in taking the time to read the info and follow the instructions I give you, as this and the resources I give you ARE your instruction and are not to be missed. 2. If you have a question or problem, email me at theisr@limashawnee.com. That's how you or your parents can contact me. 3. *NOTE- Quizzes, tests, and online assigned 'check-ins' do not usually "open" until the day that they are assigned, so if it says "Not available" before the date assigned, this is why. It should become available on the day that I assign it. This is a good thing because I want you to work poco a poco, little by little, so that this info 'sticks' and nobody just tries to complete it ALL in one big crazy RUSH that won't stay with you. I don't want you to work way ahead of me and the 'check-ins' will help me be sure that you're 'with' me. If I'm not moving fast enough for you and you want MORE Spanish, check out the regular old"Spanish IV" class page website I have on the main page and there are tons of resources and links to extra materials that are totally optional. -------------------------------------------------------------- VIERNES, el 3 de ABRIL 1. Watch the video lesson in link 23 in its entirety. It is NOT the same Profesor Jason video you already watched on forming past tenses, this one is on USE and is an excellent lesson that I will expect you to know. Take notes in your notebook as he goes. 2. Armed with your Professor Jason notes from link #23, complete the online practice activities linked below (#24, #25, #26, and #27) #25 #26 and #27 are especially good because they will give you REASONS for why each form (preterite or imperfect) is correct or at least correct your answers so you can see your mistakes. This is ESSENTIAL. Do not skip this. Again, pay close attention to the reasons they give you for each. This is gold. I need for you to know how to use preterite and imperfect well for next year, and seniors will need to be able to demonstrate it well before taking their college placement test. It requires a lot of practice, so please please PLEASE take this seriously! 3. Complete the check-in quiz dated today to show me that you did the above effectively and understood the comments and rationale/feedback. You will not be able to do well unless you have previously completed the above steps and activities. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spanish Work Days will now be on Mondays and Wednesdays of each week, with quizzes, tests, and assignment due dates as announced. NOTE: A few people have asked about a summer assignment for those students going on to AP. I will NOT be giving a summer assignment this year. If you would like to work on Spanish over summer, you have the option of doing Yabla as you have your own membership that will not expire until fall and can look up videos and complete activities as you wish, or perhaps I would suggest you find a Spanish language series to watch (Destinos would work :-) but there will be no AP summer assignment this year from me. ***Seniors that are about to graduate and will be taking a college placement test, I want to recommend that you use the unit links (there are nine of them!) at https://studyspanish.com/grammar to review prior to your placement test. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CINCO DE MAYO: Celebrates Mexico´s victory over the FRENCH at the Battle of Puebla and is NOT Mexico´s Independence Day...that happens in September. Optional bonus lists (maximum five points for 50 words) due next Friday, May 15th (theisr@limashawnee.com) Sorry, no bonus lists will be credited if not turned in by that date. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ lunes, el once de mayo LISTAS OPCIONALES PARA RECIBIR CRédito suplementario son para este viernes, el quince de mayo. No se aceptan las listas que llegan tarde. No late lists credited. CONDITIONAL TENSE: So, the future tense told what WILL happen. The conditional tense tells what WOULD happen...as in, what you WOULD do in a certain situation, what WOULD happen, etc. I like to teach them close together because they are similar in conjugation pattern in the following aspects: 1. They both are formed by NOT taking off the -AR-ER-IR infinitive ending. You LEAVE IT ON...leave the verb in its entire infinitive form, and just add endings. 2. The SAME endings are used for -AR - ER -IR verbs. 3. The irregular stems are the SAME for future and conditional tense. Here are the endings you ADD on for the conditional tense. -ía -íamos -ías -íais -ía -ían Now, be sure NOT to take off the infinitive ending, because if you do, you will end up with imperfect (past) tense! Just add them on to tell what you WOULD do. Today you will learn about conditional tense to talk about what WOULD happen, and conditional tense to express probability/conjecture in the PAST. Watch instructional videos, hear pronunciation, read notes, and see examples with regular and irregular conditional tense and conditional to express probability in the past today at links 45, 46, 47, 48, and 49. After watching these links, complete the quiz on CONDITIONAL under My Activities and Quizzes. This is due by Wednesday morning at 11 AM. --------------------------------------------------------- miércoles, el trece de mayo CONDITIONAL PERFECT You know that the perfect tenses utilize the helping verb HABER (have, as a helping verb) plus a past participle (-ADO/ -IDO, lots of irregulars like abierto, roto, dicho, hecho, puesto, visto, etc.) Today you will learn how to use the CONDITIONAL PERFECT to talk about what you WOULD HAVE done or what WOULD HAVE happened, had certain conditions been met. 1. Vean Uds. los enlaces #50, #51, and #52 sobre Conditional perfect. 2. Complete the CONDITIONAL PERFECT test (under My Activities and Quizzes) Submit it no later than 11:59 pm today (Wednesday) (Open notes) 3. Again, the absolute LAST TIME that you can submit optional bonus lists for this quarter is Friday, May 15th, by 11:59 pm. After that no late lists can be accepted. 4. Seniors, before you take your college placement test for Spanish, I recommend you look over the grammar units at link #53 on studyspanish.com. Look on the left hand side...pretty much every single thing you can think about that has to do with Spanish grammar is here. There are nine units, you click on the unit and all the topics are listed. Know you don´t quite get direct and indirect object pronouns? They are there. Forget when to use por and when to use para? It´s there! Pretty much everything one can possibly think of that has to do with Spanish grammar is there. There is a review lesson and then an activity...many times at least one of their practice activities offers answers. Only use the free stuff. I posted the link at #53. Also, seniors, everyone´s YABLA memberships are good until next fall. If you want to stay sharp before your placement test, you can use the grammar review website I posted (link 53) and your Yabla membership...you can search your own videos without being assigned anything...or there´s always Destinos ;-) **************** Seniors...¡Amor, Suerte, y un Abrazo Muy FUERTE! :-) Adiós Seniors and General Musings for All: Seniors: Again, Amor, Suerte, y Un Abrazo Muy Fuerte. (Love, Luck, and a Really Big Hug...see how it rhymes there? :-) I posted a review link of all grammar for you on our page in case you want to look it over before you take your placement test for college. If you have the option, it is best to look over that review page and take your placement test sooner than later. Gracias por estudiar con nosotras por cuatro años. Siempre serán muy especiales para mí y ha sido un gran placer conoceros y ser su profesora. Han traído mucha felicidad y alegría a mi vida y muchas risas y sonrisas. You are going to be FINE. Take it all in stride, this too, will pass, and you have a lovely future ahead of you! Felicitaciones, yo los quiero y los deseo toda la suerte y una vida bendita. :-) Everybody else, love you too, but your assignments will be posted per usual for next week on Monday. :-) CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL...because... Except for just one or two new things (pretty much just past subjunctive), this conditional perfect was the LAST of the main grammar points! You did it! You have pretty much seen and done it all when it comes to Spanish grammar these four years! The ´nuts and bolts´ of Spanish grammar, for the most part, are NOW OUT OF THE WAY! You did it. The one thing we did not get to is past subjunctive but it is not that bad and I will make sure you get it next year. There have been several years where we have held off on that ´til AP when we didn´t have a crazy coronavirus issue to deal with, so no worries whatsoever. If you truly cannot wait to unlock the final mystery of Spanish grammar, you can check it out on the grammar review page I posted for the seniors, but this conditional perfect was the last brand new grammar topic we are officially doing this year. No summer assignment this year other than to decompress and de-stress as best you can, try to tear yourself away from a computer screen and get some sunshine, fun, and fresh air, and no worries, I know exactly what we got through in Spanish IV, exactly what you need to do for AP, and I will help you- it will be fine and you will enjoy seeing, hearing, and using it as we delve into cultural topics, videos, music, articles, plays, etc. We did really well, even in this highly unusual situation, and pretty much got through all the grammar we needed to get through...you´re in good shape to go on next year and again, I will help you. We got this... :-) Juniors and sophomores, until next week! We´re almost done! Hang in there! You´re going to make it! Seniors, I wish you luck and blessings para siempre. Everyone take this open notes Conditional Perfect Quiz and submit it no later than WEDNESDAY night at 11:59pm. Optional bonus lists due Friday! Anybody needs anything or has questions, just email (theisr@limashawnee.com) If anyone needs to use me as a job application reference, now or in the coming years, it is fine! Just give them my school email address (theisr@limashawnee.com) and school phone number. ¡PAZ! ¡Y lávate las manos! :-) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ lunes, el dieciocho de mayo REFLEXIVE VERBS REVIEW: Here is something that has needed additional review all year. Let´s take today and get this out of the way before next year! 1. Watch mini-video lesson and complete practice at links 54-57 today. 2. There will be a small quiz posted to take over this on Wednesday to show me that you indeed did look at those links and understood the reflexive verbs, meanings, and use. 3. YABLA assignments (due Friday at noon) are posted for your class. Start them today and finish them before Friday at noon. -------------------------------------------------------------------- miércoles, el veinte de mayo 1. Watch the Reflexive Verb Song at link 58 to review how to use pronouns with reflexive verbs. (As an aside, why do WE not make grammar review videos like this...? You would all sign up to help, right? Who would be the best dancers? We´d have to social distance though.) 2. Take the short quiz over reflexive verbs posted under My Activities and Quizzes. Use your notes if you took any, or review back to Monday´s review as needed. 3. Complete YABLA assignments by Friday at noon. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- miércoles, el veintisiete de mayo La última canción del año: Es Hora De Decir Adiós, y un cuento bilingue para disfrutar Visiten Uds. el enlace número 59 y 60 por abajo para ver la última canción del año escolar y gozar de un cuento bilingue.
