Welcome to the Hargeisa Accountancy Boot Camp! The program will be held from 2-27 July, 2017. The sponsors of the boot camp are Beder International University and Alpha University College, and the program will take place at these schools. The participating universities are Beder, Alpha, and Admas. The program is team-based; all of our activities will happen in teams, including registration. The training program will consist of eight sessions:

All sessions are 6:30pm-9:00pm.

The final week of the program is a case study analysis. We will have a closing ceremony on 27 July at 7pm. All students will receive a Certificate of Participation.

The boot camp includes eight modules, as follows:

The Program Trainers are Thomas Davis, CPA, and David Docherty. Both are experienced international trainers (USA and Britain) and both have a strong commitment to international education development.

The eight training sessions will be designed to prepare you for the case study analysis. In a university setting, coursework and exams tend to be theory-based on calculation-based rather than integrated, multi-discipline decision making. In a real-world decision making context, you need to be able to use multiple disciplines and analyses to choose a course of action. Enabling you to effectively analyze problems and make decisions is the objective of the boot camp.

The 16 team case submissions will be judged by the Program Trainers and two local Somaliland professionals, and the winners will be announced at the closing ceremony with the following prizes awarded:

First place: $200
Second place: $100
Third place: $50

PRE-BOOT CAMP PREP WORK
I am including links (see "Useful links" at bottom of page) to materials which you might find helpful to prepare for the boot camp. These materials are based on the ACCA exams, the content of which is the basis of our program. I will upload pre-boot camp reading and activities which will enable you to maximize your experience in the program.

INSTRUCTIONS TO ACCESS OPENTUITION LECTURE NOTES:
1) Register at the OpenTuition website (see "useful links" below)
2) Go to the OpenTuition ACCA page (see "useful links" below) and select "F3" from the exam list along the top of the page.
3) Scroll down to "Free ACCA F3 notes" and download the F3 lecture notes

Note that on the OpenTuition page, you have access to additional video lectures, which are very helpful if you want to explore the OpenTuition materials further, particularly if you decide to take the ACCA exams in the future.

ACTIVITY 1: Review of financial accounting concepts/accounting cycle
1) (OPTIONAL) Read chs. 1-3 of the OpenTuition lecture notes

3) Complete the accounting cycle for the journal entries prepared in the video - ledgers/trial balance/statement of profit and loss/statement of financial position
