Email the work from link 28 to me at theisr@limashawnee.com by 11:59 tonight.  Utiliza los signos de puntuación y acentos.  You have to use the Spanish characters because again, I want to be sure you can do that on your AP test if you type out your answers to submit electronically.  USE THE FORMAT and WORDS/PHRASES I HAVE GIVEN YOU TO PRACTICE THOSE FOR USE ON THE AP TEST.

AP TEST UPDATE:

Looks like May 22nd is our testing from home date.
Here is the full schedule.

https://apcoronavirusupdates.collegeboard.org/educators/taking-the-exams/ap-exam-schedule?SFMC_cid=EM294654-&rid=47433203

You will be doing only the final portion of the free response section of the AP test.  That is the simulated conversation and the cultural comparison, both of which we have worked on a great deal this year.  See below:

Section 2B: Free Response - Spoken

2 Questions

SIMULATED CONVERSATION: Participate in 5 exchanges in a simulated conversation (20 seconds for each response). For this conversation, students will be provided with a preview of the conversation, including an outline of each exchange.

(This is the shaded portion where you respond to what is said.)  You have notes over this and we completed class simulations for this.

CULTURAL COMPARISON:  Deliver a 2-minute speaking presentation in response to a prompt in which students compare a cultural feature of a Spanish-speaking community with which they are familiar to their own community or another community.

Go through your binder and take a look at the activities we did on both of these items to remind yourself of strategies, familiarize yourself with vocab, etc.
Again, if you are interested in optional review over break, I would highly recommend the grammar review pages linked toward the bottom of the original AP website.

This year's AP Exams will:

Be available for students to take at home.

Be delivered to students online, and, in most cases, can be taken with a smartphone, laptop, desktop, tablet, or Chromebook.

Include only free-response questions.

Be approximately 45 minutes long.

Be open book/open notes, but will not permit consultation with other students or teachers during the test.

Be held May 11-22 at specified times, with a makeup option available for each exam June 1-5.

Give students the opportunity to earn college credit if they receive a qualifying score.

Have the support of college admissions officers who review applications, and college faculty who decide whether college credit is awarded.

LUNES, el 13 de ABRIL:

All AP College Board Training Videos (optional) are posted and can be found at link #32 under Useful Links below.  A new one is posted daily.  Again, these are optional, use them as your time / desire allows.  I will say that they have become much more applicable to the changes for THIS truncated version of the AP test than they were when they first started releasing them, so if you didn´t find them very applicable or practical then, they are a lot better now.  Please do take a look at the most recent ones if you have time; again, they are more applicable and practical now than they were when they first started releasing them.

I will be concentrating our class activities on information directly applicable to the simulated dialog and cultural comparison tasks, as well as some grammar review.

I have archived all previous assignments / info from this page from before break.  If for any reason you need any of the archived assignment info, please let me know.

A) La Simulación (Simulated Dialogue)
B) La Comparación Cultural

So today, Monday, April 13th, I am going to give you a main assignment to work on that will be due on FRIDAY morning at 9 am.  You will have assignments posted daily to prepare you for the AP test.  Some assignments, such as today´s, will give you multiple days to complete them and submit them.  There will not necessarily be something  to submit or turn in every single day, but there will be an assignment or activity to prepare you for that AP test each day.

Due by FRIDAY morning at 9 am:

A)  PRIMERO, Lean Uds. los artículos de los enlaces #33 y #34 para aprender algo sobre las actividades de ocio (leisure) dispuestas (available) para hacer los jóvenes de países hispanos en su tiempo libre, y vean el video de #35.  Uds. van a completar una simulación relacionada y esto les va a servir como unas fuentes imprescindibles.
You have to look at that information first, the two articles and the video, before you can do the simulations I am assigning below.

B)  Go to AP Classroom.  There should be an unlocked Progress check titled:

Unit 1 Progress Check: FRQ Part B  (FRQ - Free Response Question)  It should have two practice tasks: a simulated dialog and a cultural comparison with options for recording.
(Just like the AP test this year...see where I´m going with this?)

I actually had unlocked it long ago when we were experimenting with this resource, and some had ´played' with it, some had not, so if it looks familiar or says that you already have started it, this is why.

It is two simulations, one mirroring each part of this year´s AP test.  One is a simulated dialog, one is a two minute cultural comparison, both are recorded.  I am thinking this is the same base format they may use on this year´s at home AP test.
Complete and submit by Friday morning at 9 AM.  Look at the resources in links #33, 34, and 35 first, especially the video, as this will give you speaking fodder.  Don´t do the practice simulation activities without looking at the resource material I am giving you first.

Remember, you CAN make NOTES to use during these two simulations, just as you can for the AP test.

Info regarding test format (you already know this...but here is the official AP description).  Notice that they say you WILL be able to take notes and they will be repeating items.  ALSO, THERE WILL NOT BE ANY TYPE OF WEBCAM WATCHING YOU DO YOUR AP EXAM, so if that was a concern, you do not have to worry about it any longer.

OPTIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT ALL OF THE AP EXAMS THIS YEAR IN THEIR SHORTENED CORONAVIRUS FORMAT IS POSTED AT LINK #36 BELOW.

Question names:

Conversation

Cultural Comparison

Question description

Question 1 will consist of similar components to the traditional AP Spanish Language and Culture interpersonal speaking task, Conversation. The task will be modified to allow for aural delivery of the conversation, including repeated delivery of the directions and the conversation topic, in order to allow for note taking. The task will focus on having students respond to a recorded interlocutor’s questions.

Question 2 will consist of similar components to the traditional AP Spanish Language and Culture presentational speaking task, Cultural Comparison. The task will be modified to allow for aural delivery of the task, including repeated delivery of both the directions as well as the prompt in order to allow for detailed note taking.

So today´s assignment is due on Friday at 9 am.  Read the two articles referenced, watch the short video, and complete and submit the two simulation activities on AP Classroom by Friday morning at 9 am.

MARTES, el 14 de ABRIL

Simulated Conversation Prep:  Phrases to Plug In - Use and Practice

1.  First, view my review presentation on simulated conversations...tips...what is expected, etc.. (ENLACE #41)

2.  Practice useful expressions for simulated conversation with the quizlet flashcards and games (link 37,  link 38, and link 42)  These are go-to expressions that will help you fill that 20 seconds!  ADD ANY THAT YOU WANT TO YOUR VOCAB NOTEBOOK!

3. (As always, Optional  Daily AP College Board provided videos are posted at link #32.
Please note that these videos now are becoming much more tailored/designed for this year´s adjusted version of the test, as opposed to general things not specifically related.)

Don´t forget that the simulation dialogue and simulation cultural comparison assigned on AP Classroom are to be submitted on Friday by 9 am.  There is nothing due to be submitted today.

-----------------------------------------------------------

miércoles, el quince de abril :

*Note:  When you share a document with me via email, I am making corrections via suggestions.  I believe when I make an edit or suggestion, you see it, but if I am wrong, let me know.  If you send an email document to me, I put corrections in bold (en negrita is how you say in bold in Spanish) and email it back to you.
The only way that is very difficult to edit/correct is if you write it out and photograph it, so if that´s how you´ve been submitting written assignments, please just write them in an email or email me a shared document version that I can edit where you will see changes.  Don´t worry about anything you have already submitted; just keep that in mind for the future so that I can get your suggested corrections to you in case you´d like to have a look/get some tailored feedback about grammar.

The ones you did right before break (cultural comparison) were okay but I would like to see more of an effort to include the structures and vocabulary I am providing so I know it is getting practiced for plug in during your AP test.  We will work more on cultural comparisons next week, this week is more about the simulated dialog practice.  Remember that you are supposed to be presenting in the cultural comparison as if you were making a class or group presentation.

Theis´ Simulated Dialogue Example/Help Video and Complete a Timed Practice Simulated Dialogue online, practice Simulated Dialog Plug-In Phrases.

Did you know...
The simulated dialog portion is meant to be INFORMAL!  This means you will be using the tú form and corresponding possessives-  tu / tus, as well as informal reflexive pronouns... te....and commands...(put the verb in the he/she/it form, attach pronouns to the end, haz, sal, ten, ve, ven, di, pon, sé, for negative commands, put the pronouns out front and use the subjunctive form...no hagas....no dejes....no salgas....no te vayas....no te preocupes, etc.)

Did you know...?
Some common prompt instructions for this portion of the AP test may include:

Propón-  Propose
Pide- ask for
Pregunta- ask a question
Aconseja- advise
Anima- cheer/encourage
Saluda- Greet
Sugiere- Suggest
Trata de - try to...
Despídete- say goodbye
Agradece- thank
Termina- Finish
Responde afirmativamente- say yes, respond affirmatively

Did you know?
That you have 20 seconds to speak each time.  Try to fill up the 20 seconds, even if you are not completely sure what they have said, keep in the same topic/gist of the conversation prompt, and chances are you will say something applicable/relevant.

Did you know?
Basic plug-in fillers include:

Ojalá que todo te vaya bien.  (Hope it all goes well for you)
Qué gusto saber de ti.  (How nice to hear from you)
Mil gracias por haberme llamado.  (Thanks so much for having called me)
Calm down, buddy, I´m sure I can help you.
Nos vemos, hasta pronto.  See ya soon.
Cuídate.  Take care.
No te preocupes.  Don´t worry.
Debieras. + infinitive.. You really should...
¿Quisieras plus infinitive...Would you like to...?
Quisiera + infinitive....I would like to....

No debieras...you really shouldn´t...
Sugiero que...+ subjunctive   I suggest you ____
Recomiendo que...+ subjunctive
Insisto en que tú + subjunctive
Es necesario que tú + subjunctive

Remember, subjunctive formation = YO form, take off the ¨O¨, add opposite ending.
Quiero que tú + subjunctive    I want for you to ____

TAREA DE HOY:

1.  Miren Uds. el enlace #39.  This is a timed simulation dialog practice that you will do today, this will give you an overview.  Now, watch the video que hice yo sobre AP Simulated Dialog (Enlace #43).  Watch my video that goes WITH this.  It is at link #43.  This goes along with the simulation in #39 that  I am going to ask you to practice today.  Yes, the visual quality of mine isn´t so good, but you already watched link #39 so you know exactly what I am referring to in my help video.

These are filler expressions that will help you with this part of the AP test.  Just use these links to familiarize yourself with some go-to filler expressions you can incorporate in today´s practice simulation.

3.  Go to link 39 and practice one simulation today (this is the one I was using in my explanation/help video), using this online video practice guide and timed listening prompt sequence...it is timed and is a valuable practice resource, but it is challenging.  Find a place in your home where you can speak aloud, and give it a try.  Do not forget, you can make notes to use, but you won´t have time to write a script.  (Optional suggestion:  Record yourself and listen when finished, then make adjustments...do this a few times until you feel comfortable...try to incorporate some of the plug in expressions I have been having you practice.)   This is just for practice.  Between this simulation and my suggestion video, you should have some good ideas for completing the simulated dialogue portion of the test this year.

4.  Don´t forget that the Simulated Dialog and Cultural Comparison that were assigned Monday on AP Classroom are due to be recorded and submitted by Friday morning at 9 am.

5.  As always, the OPTIONAL AP College Board videos are posted for you and updated daily at link #32.  They are ok but my personal preference is to focus our class preparation on the two portions of the AP test that you will be taking on May 22nd from home, which are the simulated dialogue (five speaking prompts of 20 seconds each) and two-minute cultural comparison.  Again, I want to point out that they now seem much more tailored/specifically designed for this year´s version of the AP test and may seem more applicable/practical than previously.

Un aspecto de gramática para utilizar en hablar  (Expressing what WAS GOING to happen compared with what now IS GOING to happen...¨IR A + INFINITIVE in present vs.  IR A + infinitive in imperfect¨ use...please note that the imperfect of ¨IR¨ in the vosotros form is ibais (no accent!)  Sorry, it took over an hour to upload and I just caught it.

How will this help me on the AP test?

- Potential cultural comparison fodder galore!  You can get so much out of a simple cultural topic like this...pay attention to things like ...el estilo de vestirse de las mujeres, la historia del evento, cómo se celebra...el baile flamenco como una forma de arte, las corridas de toros y la diferencia entre Barcelona y Sevilla, España, el efecto producido por la enfermedad de Coronavirus este año, etc.

-A plug-in structure for possible use in speaking/writing to compare what WAS GOING to happen with what is NOW going to happen.

2.  Read brief article #45 Sevilla Cancela la Feria...

3.  Watch grammar review link #46 if you need help remembering how to express what people ARE going to do compared with what they WERE going to do (Ir A Infinitive with present vs. with imperfect)  I recycled this from Spanish IV, but you may have forgotten and it is very relevant to plug in for speaking when comparing what was going to happen compared to what is going to happen now (por ...on account of...el Coronavirus y la cuarentena...the quarantine).  So I posted it for you as well just in case you needed to brush up.  Simple, but could help you on the speaking part of the AP test.

4.  Take the Quiz called Feria de Abril (simple future).  It´s located under My Activities and Quizzes below.  This will show me that you understood the main points of today´s lesson and review some of the basic cultural information I wanted you to take away from this.  Remember, while we think of potentially using this cultural information on the cultural comparison portion of the AP test, you also score major points if you are able to mention a little something cultural in the simulated dialogue as well if it works in naturally and easily.

Submit this quiz by 11:59 pm tonight.

------------------------------------------------------------

Viernes el 17 de abril

SEE LÏNK #54 for a message from MRS. MURPHY about updating your email account for AP and indicating which college you want to receive your scores!

Focus:  Simulated Conversation

1.  Don´t forget that by 9 am this morning, you need to have submitted your recordings of AP Classroom simulated conversation and cultural comparison (read Monday´s assignment.)  I just need to see that you are practicing and trying to implement the strategies / phrases we have been discussing.

1B.  Links 52 and 53 contain important messages and updates regarding this year´s AP test.  Basically, it is the simulated dialog and cultural comparison, but they are delivering all of the prompts AURALLY this year.  That means listening.  You will have to listen to spoken prompts instead of reading them.  Also, your test will not take up 45 minutes.  I have all of the current information as well as they current updated descriptions of the test as verbatim from AP College Board posted on link 53 and would like you to read it.  Everything will be just as we have practiced with the exception that prompts will be delivered aurally.  They say they will be giving us sample practice items in the future.

2.  Link 40 is another timed simulated conversation.  I would like for you to work on that today.  I want you to watch it all the way through and try it on your own...then watch my suggestion video in link 47 (to be posted by Friday) and then try it again.

This past week, we worked quite a bit on simulated dialogs.  Next week we will shift our focus to cultural comparisons.

As always, the Optional AP videos are posted under link 32.  A new one is added each day.  You are encouraged to watch them if you have the time/ desire, but I will focus our class practice and lessons on skills directly related to the two parts of the AP test you will be taking in May.  I will again say that they now seem much more specifically applicable to this year´s AP test than when they first started making them available, so if you do have time, please take a look.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay everyone...listened to your samples for the simulated dialog and cultural comparison.  First, they WILL give you TWO minutes to speak on the cultural comparison for the AP test...no idea WHY they only gave you one minute on this one, so if you did not have a chance to get to everything, NO WONDER!

Second, don´t be afraid, but practice practice practice the plug-ins because that will improve your fluency and ease.

Third...okay...EVERYBODY PAY ATTENTION:

Las semejanzas = the similarities  (this is a NOUN)
Another way of saying similarities is:  Las similitudes
Those are nouns.  You say:  Las semejanzas son...and then you list the similarities.  Or Las similitudes son...and then list them.

SIMILAR es an adjective.  You can say...Son similares en que...they´re similar in that...
Son iguales en que...  They´re alike in that...

Son parecidos en que...  They´re alike in that...

BUT YOU CANNOT SAY:  Las similares son....  NO NO NO...  similar is not a noun.  You say LAS SEMEJANZAS SON.

Now, differences...you say...Las diferencias son...  Diferencias is a noun.
OR
Son diferentes en que...  They are different in that...
or
Se diferencian en que...   They are different in that....

But you CANNOT SAY  LAS DIFERENTES SON....because diferente is an adjective, NOT a noun!  You say...las diferencias son....  or They are different in that...son diferentes en que...

Love ya, but had to tell ya!  Don´t want you messing that up on the AP exam.  Gosh, when you are doing the cultural comparisons as practice...and some of you are skipping the practicing :-(  ...please DO PLUG IN THE SUGGESTED PHRASES AND STRUCTURES please!  I want you to get used to using them.  Don´t worry that I won´t think you´re very original...I want to know that you have some go-to expressions that you are using!  If you slacked off a little on the practice last week, look over it again, absolutely everything I am putting up for you is directly related to the portions of the AP test you will be completing on May 22nd.
Speaking of which, if you haven´t confirmed your email address on your AP account, do it today.  They sent out an email last week to be sure you are still taking the AP test and to be sure you are getting their emails...if you didn´t check your email, please do so, and respond to their question/survey.

Cultural Comparison Scoring and Student Samples:

I DO want for you watch this particular AP video about the cultural comparison, because they get into the scoring and let you hear samples...that starts around minute 30.  If you are short on time, start at minute 30 where she displays the rubric for the cultural comparison scoring and begins playing the student samples.  If you have plenty of time, watch the whole thing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVwOsFKWS3E&list=PLoGgviqq4847NrGXhnmp6QnzSwknYH3SJ&index=11

Again, If you have time, watch the whole thing.  If not, just watch from minute 30 on over the SCORING rubrics and the student samples played!

Upcoming information regarding this year´s test:

You may have noticed that the wording of the adjusted AP test description states that the instructions and prompts will be delivered aurally and repeated, and that students will have time to take notes.  This is for BOTH portions...the simulated conversation and the cultural comparison.  This may mean that you will need to listen to receive the prompts and background information.  Many have asked if there will also be a written bosquejo (outline) per usual, but no definitive answer has yet been given.  One change is that you will definitely need paper and pencil to take notes during the AP test.  You can write notes about the prompts, or use the notes to plan your cultural comparison by making a T chart, for example, or jotting down ideas for the simulated dialog.   As soon as additional information is available, I will post it.  I look for this information to be released later this week/ early next week.

Please visit link # 48 on the topic of AP Student Updates for information to you from the College Board.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you didn´t already take care of this, please do it today:  SEE LÏNK #54 for a message from MRS. MURPHY about updating your email account for AP and indicating which college you want to receive your scores.

I sent everyone an email to their school email address on Friday 4/17 about various topics, but one of them was that I want you to find an online or television series to watch all in Spanish three times per week.  I need you to be hearing rapid fire native Spanish speaking and want you to choose something that INTERESTS YOU.  You can keep it on in the background, etc., but turn on Spanish subtitles so you can see the words while listening to the Spanish audio.  I have a google slide presentation that I want you to make one slide for regarding the series you have chosen.  (Again, if you can´t use anything else, just go with good ol' Destinos!  No shame in it!  Someone has to find out what happens!  Yes, I know, I have seen it all the way through before but it wasn´t particularly memorable and why spoil your joy.)  Follow my template slide and my own example, and add one or two slides (depending on how much space you need) to fill out the info about the Spanish language series you chose.  Please have your slide added by Friday of this week 24 de abril.  Slide presentation is located at LINK # 56 below.  Hope this works!  Cute idea and might be fun, plus I really need for you to be hearing rapid fire native speaking on a regular basis...I want you to watch your series in 30 minute episode snippets..no, you most definitely won´t understand EVERY single word...that´s ok!!!  You aren´t expected to...it´s to BUILD and see what you CAN make out or get the gist of as well as build listening skills and cultural content for the AP test.  Add your slide to the presentation by Friday at 11:59 pm.  Who knows...you may choose to change series or binge watch and need a new one, and this way you will have ten different ideas about what you may enjoy watching!  (Plus you get points for your slide.)

LUNES, el 20 de abril  y MARTES el 21 de abril (This is a TWO DAY assignment.  Do NOT submit the work to me until Tuesday.)   I want you to spread this out over TWO DAYS because it is important, there is a lot of GOOD info and review here, and I really want you to take your time, take this seriously, and use this info!  The T-chart you send to me after completing all this is due by TOMORROW night, Tuesday 21 de ABRIL, at 11:59 pm)

Cultural Comparison, part I Week

La Prueba:  Proof - Create a T-chart for a grade (10 points possible).  Submit by email (theisr@limashawnee.com) by 11:59 pm TOMORROW NIGHT (Tuesday night).  This whole thing is a two day assignment, take it seriously and go slow.

Tarea :

4.  Entréguenme la submision del T-Chart (No me importa cuál pregunta escoges) antes de las 11:59 de la noche el MARTES (due to be sent to me by Tuesday night at 11:59 pm).  Just choose one of the three questions from the slides in the sample questions I gave you and asked you to practice making cultural comparisons for, take a photo of the T-chart you made for it, and email me that one T-Chart (theisr@limashawnee.com)  Again, for this one, I recommend doing it paper/pencil and taking a photo to send me.  Why?  Because that is how you will do it on AP test day.  I just want to see that you know how the T-chart organizer works and can implement it.  All sentences must be in Spanish for me for this (on the day of the AP test it won´t matter, but for me it will today.)  You can choose ANY of the practice presentations to send me your T-chart from.

What will I be looking for?

1.  That you made a T-chart as instructed in the presentation...I want the question at the top of it, the big T with the places you will be comparing up at the top, and then two or three things about each place that you would plan to say in your presentation.  In Spanish.  *I also want you to jot down a couple of transition words that you would incorporate!

Ten points total...BREAKDOWN of GRADE:
one point for the question at the top
one point for naming the places you will compare at the top
six points for the facts under each place in Spanish, looking up needed words/structures /info is FINE
two points for jotting down transition words that you would incorporate...for a total possible of ten points, due by 11:59 TUESDAY night, emailed to theisr@limashawnee.com

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you didn´t already take care of this, please visit link #54 for information from Mrs. Murphy about updating your email address in your AP account and indicating which college you want to receive your AP scores.

Answer the questions on the page after reading the articles (complete Spanish sentences...you are just answering questions but I WANT YOU TO USE THOSE PHRASES I HAVE GIVEN AT THE BOTTOM!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE USE THEM!!!!!!!) and send your work to me in an editable document  (google doc with editing privileges or an just an email where I can make corrections en negrita...in bold) by 11:59 pm TOMORROW (Thursday) NIGHT  Please do NOT do this on paper and take a photo, I would like to be able to correct your grammar for you.

From the AP College Board:

Students must review their contact information on their AP accounts.   Per AP College Board:  ¨We're communicating with the AP community primarily by email. To ensure your students are receiving critical information, make sure they log in to My AP to remind themselves of the email address and cell phone number they’ve asked the College Board to use. If they want, students can change how we contact them. Two days before each exam, students will receive an email with a personalized e-ticket that will include their eight-character AP ID code. If a student still doesn’t receive the email, they’ll be able to access their e-ticket directly through My AP.¨

So if you have not, again, PLEASE log in to My AP to remind yourself of the email address and cell number you have asked AP College Board to use.  Your email you gave them is how you will receive your e-ticket and AP code for the AP test this year.

Para empezar el lunes y el martes; para completar y entregar el miércoles (envíamelo por correo electrónico en un documento que yo puedo editar...a regular email is fine or do it with google docs giving me editing privileges...so I can correct your grammar and get it back to you.)  Please do not email it in until Wednesday, el 29 de abril.
(Giving you three days to divide up the assignment, please submit me your answers to the questions at theisr@limashawnee.com by Wednesday night at 11:59 pm)

La Cuarentena en España, Haciendo comparaciones:
The quarantine in Spain, Making Comparisons

Cultural knowledge info; cultural comparison practice

1.  Go to link 11, read the information and questions, submit answers to all the questions on WEDNESDAY, frases completas en español por supuesto, DUE TO BE SUBMITTED ON WEDESDAY April 29th by 11:59 pm via email (theisr@limashawnee.com)  Can be in an email (I can make corrections in bold and email it back to you) OR google doc with editing rights for me.  I just want you to be able to see my corrections.

The page (link 11) will direct you to the videos and articles I have posted at the bottom of the page under useful links.

2.  Don´t forget to watch the series (la serie) que has escogido (that you´ve chosen) por media hora tres veces a la semana.  (half hour, three times per week.)  If you can put on los subtitulos en español mientras miras el programa, a lo mejor.  IF you can put on SPANISH subtitles while you watch in SPANISH, so much the better, but the AUDIO is the most important (trying to develop your ear a bit before the AP test as the prompts will be delivered aurally).  It can be cooking, drama, noticias, fiction, documentaries, game shows, reality tv...programas de realidad...lo que quieran...whatever you want that is school/parent appropriate....pero quiero que te interese...but I want it to interest you.  Choose a series you enjoy...if you binge watch and finish yours, or if you want some variety, you may choose to try one out from the document we made together on google slides...or hey....there´s ALWAYS DESTINOS!!!  Destinos would be great for stress relief!  Just saying... can you hear that intro in your head now?  I *KNOW* you can!  ANNENBERG MEDIA...Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation...good stuff!  ;-)

YABLA ASSIGNMENTS, due this FRIDAY by NOON, are posted.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
JUEVES, el TREINTA de ABRIL

(Para el viernes a las doce de la tarde  (Due by Friday at NOON...note the due time so that Progressbook will reflect you DID it on time.  Anything completed on Friday after noon will receive half credit.)

Yabla:  El Coronavirus  If you have not already started your Yabla assignments for the week (todas tienen algo que ver con nuestra examinación de Coronavirus en países hispanohablantes), es necesario empezarlas hoy.

Completen Uds. los videos sobre el Coronavirus de Yabla  (assigned on your Yabla account.)  Please watch the entire video first, THEN do the activities afterward.  The info in these videos would be very valuable should this year´s cultural comparison deal with a current event.  But if you don´t watch the  Yabla video all the way, you won´t get that info.

To give you guided listening practice and cultural comparison information about a current event, and teach you words and expressions you can plug in to use to describe it so you can effectively compare how Spanish-speaking countries (países hispanohablantes) are dealing with it compared to EEUU.

(*Note to early birds...Yabla assignments were posted Thursday 4/23, so you can work ahead if you so choose.  If you are interested in additional Yabla practice to develop your ear, remember that I do not have to assign something on Yabla for you to be able to use the website to access practice...you have a membership, which means you can look for videos that interest you and watch them with their subtitles, play the games as you wish, etc.  Your membership is good until the beginning of next school year, so you actually can practice to keep your skills fresh all summer long off and on if you desire until you go to college in the fall.)

---------------------------------------

VIERNES, el PRIMERO de MAYO:  (Remember how you CANNOT say el uno de mayo?  Yikes...no.  It has to be el primero de mayo.)

Yabla activities are due today by noon for full credit.  Any of the activities completed today after 12pm noon will receive half credit.

Watch your series!

Espero que Uds. vean este anuncio...quiero que Uds. sepan que yo estoy tan orgullosa de Uds. porque las comparaciones culturales sobre la cuarentena que Uds. me han entregado son realmente impresionantes....No kidding, I see a real improvement, I see you implementing the previously suggested expressions and structures, I see you including the questions in your answers, and just generally showing that you have really taken this seriously and have ´dug deep´ to USE the sources I gave you and put QUALITY (CALIDAD) en el trabajo.  Seriously proud of you guys on this one, and if you can put this level of quality in your speaking of the same activity, I do not have many worries for you regarding doing well on that task!!!  So proud of you guys and impressed!  IMprovement is evident, incorporation of suggestions is evident.  You will be FINE.  You are very prepared to go on to college study of Spanish next year.  I hope you are proud of yourselves because how far you have come is amazing.
You have gone from ¨¿Cómo estás?  Yo estoy bien...back in 8th grade to successfully being able to compare the difficulties of the Coronavirus disease in different countries and reading news articles/ seeing videos to get your info!!!  WOW.  I hope you get how impressive this is.  I sure do!  Uds. son los campeones.  You are the champs!  Just, WOW!  Impresionante, mis alumnos.

AP Test Details/ College Board Videos Update:

Please visit link 58 for an outline and additional updated details about this year´s version of the AP test.  I know that this may possibly seem a bit repetitive but I do not want you to miss out on any information and the details seem to come in as snippets here and there.

I wanted to tell you that beginning May 5th, the online College Board provided videos are supposed to get in to very specific simulations, strategies, and instructions VERY RELEVANT for how to do THIS year´s special truncated Coronavirus version of the exam, including how to access, etc. It will provide specific details and insights that I have no access to any other way that are task specific to THIS year´s altered test, not just broad generalities.  I want you to watch those videos next week as often as possible because of this.  Yes, I get that they are time intensive.  In light of this, I will not require as much in the way of daily assignments to submit as I have in the past...there will still be some assignments, but the lion´s share of your prep work next week needs to be spent on that test-specific instruction that the makers of the test are providing us, as this is how they plan to share specific details about this test with you.  Again, I understand the time required just to watch those and will certainly take that into account and adjust assignments to reflect the understanding that you will be utilizing those videos.  Again, those videos can be found under link 32 and are the AP College Board´s way of instructing you specifically how to do THIS YEAR´S altered exam version, beginning on May 5th.

As of 4/28, your series diapositivas (slides) are corrected in our group collection presentation.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

LUNES, el CUATRO DE MAYO:  Today I want you to read the 2020 AP Testing GUIDE at link 59,  and the World Language Exam Instructions link 60, as well as the following information.  Link 60 is more specifically geared to OUR exam.

This year´s delivery of the Spanish exam will be different than that of the other AP exams.

First of all, here is what I need you to make sure you have access to:

What to Have Ready on Exam Day

• iOS or Android smartphone or tablet with:

• AP World Language Exam App installed (available week of May 11)
• Access to the internet by Wi-Fi or cellular data
• At least 30MB of available storage
• At least 25% battery charge (or connection to a power source)
Permitted
• Paper and pen/pencil to take notes and prepare for tasks
Headphones WITH microphone are permitted but not required.  Headphones WITHOUT a microphone will NOT work.

PLEASE NOTE:  I HAVE CALLED THE COLLEGE BOARD TO MAKE SURE AND NO, CHROMEBOOKS WILL NOT WORK!  AGAIN, Chromebooks are incompatible with this year´s AP Spanish exam...you need either a smartphone or a tablet!!!  If this is a problem, you need to let us know ASAP so we can help you arrange for a device to prepare and use.

You will have to install an App (which is not available until the week of May 11th).  They will give you an opportunity to practice submitting, etc. prior to the AP test which is on May 22nd at 4 pm.  If you get booted during the exam, you can click on your e-ticket and get back in, but if you suffer substantial technical difficulties, there WILL be a make-up exam in June that they will let you take.

I am posting the information for you from the College Board at links 59 (2020 AP Testing Guide) and 60 (Taking World Language AP Exams)  There is a lot, and the information for the World Language exams is somewhat different than that of the other exams.  Today´s assignment is to read the information at these two links carefully because I want you as up to date as possible on the delivery of this year´s exam.

Nothing to submit today, it is just THAT important that you read this information, so I want you to dedicate the time today to doing it.

Remember, the World Language exams are different than the others...you will have nothing written to submit- the App they are releasing to you on May 11th will record your audio, etc.

After completing this, begin the interview with John Quiñones, ABC news correspondent (reportero de ABC), nacido en San Antonio, Texas, who describes his childhood and upbringing as a migrant farm worker and transformation to a career in news...it is very interesting and una inspiración...I want you to watch it because I am wondering if perhaps it was provided because it may have something to do with this year´s cultural comparison...it may not, but either way, might be excellent info for this year´s cultural comparison.  A reminder that you do score some points with the AP evaluators if you can include some relevant cultural references in the simulated conversation portion as well.  It´s at link 61.  It starts in Spanish but then they switch over. (un buen tipo - ¨a good guy¨)

You can spread out the interview throughout the week if you choose according to your schedule, pero yo sí quiero que la veas.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A) Check out the short video I posted from NBC News about Cinco de Mayo...it is funny and re-caps the holiday well.  Be sure to watch because you never know what you may be able to use for this year´s test!

1.  Read link 62 on use of notes during AP test and link 63 Exam Day Checklist.
Please note where it says (in small print) that several things are NOT applicable to World Language Exams (that´s us!) because we will be using their app which we will download during the week of May 11th.

2.  Timed AP Exam Practice #1  See link 65.  Provided by College Board.
¡GRACIAS A DIOS!  Thank goodness!
Now, these practices that she is doing with you in the CB provided videos are specifically designed for THIS year´s uniquely altered version of the exam, so they are very valuable indeed!  Also, if the difficulty level of this practice is indicative of what expectations are on the task on the AP test, you guys SOOOOO have this and then some!!!  I know our practices have been much tougher than this!  You will be great!
Complete this practice as many times as necessary until you feel comfortable.

Remember,
A) Complete the task FIRST (Answer their question)

B) Elaborate as much as possible during the rest of the twenty seconds once you have answered the question.  The difference between rankings can rest in the elaboration.

C) Add a cultural reference if you can in your elaboration but it isn´t necessary- it just scores you more ´points´ with the grader.

You guys HAVE GOT THIS!  :-)     :-)     :-)
Uds. ya lo han conseguido.
¨Es pan comido.¨  (We say, ¨piece of cake!¨  They say ¨Es pan comido¨  Eaten bread!)
--------------------------------------------------------------------

miércoles, el 6 de mayo

1.  Take the comprehension check quiz over yesterday´s 2020 AP Exam Practice: Conversación for THIS YEAR´S specific version of the test so I know you understood the basics that you watched yesterday and completed at link 65.  It us posted below under My Activities and Quizzes and is super fácil, I just need proof  that you understand some important key points.  Feel free to refer to the video if need be.  Submit this quiz no later than 11:59 pm tonight (Wednesday)

2.  Watch the CB provided Review of Practice #1 at link 66.  You can do this before or after taking the quiz, it is up to you.

3.  Go to link 67 and SCROLL DOWN to the WORLD LANGUAGES portion of required items for Exam Day.  Read over what you need for your Spanish AP Exam.  Remember, we are in a slightly different ´boat´ than the other AP exams, because we are using their app which will be released on or during the week of May 11th.

4.  In preparation for tomorrow´s Cultural Comparison simulation,
go to link #76 and read over the College Board´s
2020 Exam Task Directions and Sample Prompts (but keep in mind that this is a script, your information will be delivered aurally (via listening).  This is the same info that the presenter will give in tomorrow´s simulation.  I´m just giving you the written version to give you a preview, as well as to allow you to examine the exact wording of the task  instructions that you will hear on exam day carefully.

Possible ideas to consider for the cultural comparison she will have you do that you see in the info from link 76...los mercados al aire libre en Mexico dónde todo el mundo va cada día para regatear...O...los edificios muy cercanos de apartamentos en España (Sevilla...Madrid) con sus balcones que se enfrentan y cómo permiten que las personas se vean y comuniquen durante la cuarentena del Coronavirus de varias maneras...Uds. pueden elaborar porque saben mucho de este tema porque acaban de examinarlo...cómo el diseño de la ciudad con sus calles estrechas en Sevilla permiten que la gente vea las procesiones de la Semana Santa de los balcones y que escuchen las saetas...heavens you just did a cultural comparison for me where you talked about how this communication was possible during cuarentena en las ciudades españolas pero sería imposible aquí porque nosotros vivimos en ciudades con el diseño muy diferente de las de España y vivimos en las casas que no están muy cerca y por eso es imposible comunicar tan fácilmente como en los apartamentos (pisos) españoles.  Also you could talk about how the design (diseño) of Spain´s subway system (el sistema del metro) permite que la gente no conduce tanto como aquí en EEUU.   I am just brainstorming!  I thought that was kind of a tough question...tougher than the simulated dialogue, but there are certainly plenty of things that you can say.  If you´ve traveled to a Spanish speaking country, for heaven´s sake, now is the time to talk about how you viewed the design of the place you went (be sure you mention the country at least...preferably city and country but if you can just do country, FINE!), and how it has an effect on the lifestyle of the people there, and compare it to your own or another place you are familiar with.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

el jueves, el siete de mayo

1.  Complete the AP Exam Demo Activity at link 68.  Takes hardly any time at all.  Just want you familiar so no panic on test day.  To a point, this will be what you will do on test day, but as it directs you, at a certain point it will say that you will use your World Language App (from May 11th download) for the rest.  So basically this is just having you see the form you will use to fill in some basic identifying info, but I still want you to do it because I want as few surprises/unfamiliar sights for you as humanly possible on AP testing day.  Remember, we are a slightly different scenario than the other tests because ours is all recorded on that coming app we keep telling you about.  (Kind of wish they would have given us that app before all of this information related to it without actually having it yet...but this way when that app *does* roll out, we will be beyond prepared!)

2.  If you have ignored my previous repetitive pleading to confirm your email address where you want to receive your e-ticket for the exam from the college board, please complete this task NOW.  Link 69 will walk you through it if you haven´t already taken care of this.  If you have already done it and are getting emails from the college board, you are good to go and can ignore this step today.

3.  Complete the Timed AP Exam Practice #2 at link 70 below over the Cultural Comparison.  (I gave you a heads up preview for it yesterday with some ideas to use.)

4. Link 71:  Mamá:  El tratamiento de los ancianos...the Treatment of the Elderly, and begin reading packet.

I would like you to start reading the packet I had given you over the treatment of the elderly in Spain/ Spanish speaking countries compared with other countries (Eastern countries, etc. are mentioned)  It includes articles in English, in Spanish, etc. and will give you fabulous fodder for the Cultural Comparison, just in case the question has anything to do with something applicable.
I know we already saw that Spain is having huge problems with Coronavirus outbreaks in Residencias de Mayores (one of the ways to say nursing homes).  However, not as many people use nursing homes in Spain or any of the Spanish-speaking countries as the tradition is for families to have an elder move in with them and the family cares for them as best they can while the elder watches over younger children or cooks/helps out as much as possible.  I want you to read about those differences.  In one of the Eastern countries...they mention that people can actually be fined for not taking good care of their elderly relatives...anyway, please start reading over that information so I know you have some good cultural comparison  info just in case something relevant comes up.  Watch link 71...it is super short and will make you cry...to get you thinking about this topic.  It is a good introduction and timely for Mother´s Day.  It will make you want to call your abuelita!

If you completed an optional bonus list this quarter (maximum 5 bonus points), this must be turned in by next Friday, May 15th.  (theisr@limashawnee.com)  Sorry, no late lists can be accepted!

Continue reading the packet of articles/info that I had given you about the treatment of the elderly in other countries.

3.  Miren Uds. el enlace #74 (Repaso de la Práctica #2)   Watch the AP video at link 74 reviewing yesterday´s cultural comparison simulation.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

lunes, el 11 de mayo

Optional bonus lists (maximum possible 5 points for 50 words) due this Friday, May 15th.

Download the app when it comes out and practice with it...all of the practice is in English just to get you used to using it.  It may be today, it may be sometime this week, but I will be surprised if it isn´t today.  Revisen Uds. su email.  Check your email for something from the AP College Board.  You will need access to the Google Play Store  or the Apple App Store in order to download the World Language Exam App when it becomes available.

2.  Go to link #75 below and complete the AP 2020 World Language Exam Walk Through.  It will teach you exactly how to access your exam on test day and how to use that app.  It is must-see viewing prior to taking the AP test.  Even if the app itself does not become available today, still watch this in preparation, and when it does, watch it in practice.  It´s very short.

3.  Go to link #77 and watch the final AP CB Video on Exam Tips and Helpful Hints.

El Tratamiento de los Ancianos (los Mayores)- Treatment of the Elderly

1.  If you didn´t finish reading the packet on the Treatment of the Elderly in different countries, please do so today.

2.  Go to link #78 (Al envejecer ...upon aging) and copy the questions in the green portion of the page in your Spanish notebook.  Piénsalo bien.  Think about your answers to them in regards to the Tratamiento de los Ancianos packet that you completed reading, focusing on how your answers may differ from one culture to another.   Jot down a few brief notes about anything from the packet that strikes you as relevant to the questions in the green portion.

3.  On the Aging Page (link 78), watch links 2-6.  (You already watched the first one, Mamá, last week.)  Jot down some very brief notes over anything in those video clips that may address the questions in the green top of the page about this tema.  You will use these notes later for a practice next week.  I will warn you that ¨Algo Le Pasa A Mi Heroe¨ (Something is happening to my hero) is very emotional.  The ending with the space metaphor was a little different in comparison to the rest of it but it was still a beautiful and very emotionally touching piece.

The WORLD LANGUAGE EXAM APP finally was released and sent last night around 7 pm...it was sent to your email!  If you have not already loaded it and used it in practice mode, please do so IMMEDIATELY.  The video walk through for how to use it and what to do on exam day is posted...you already were supposed to have watched it, but now that you have the app it will make so much more sense.  It´s at link 75.  They probably emailed it to you as well.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

miércoles, el trece de mayo

Feliz miércoles, mis chiquis...

GOALS OF THE DAY:

-AP HOUSEKEEPING/ EXAM NUTS AND BOLTS PREP
-CULTURA SOBRE EL CONCEPTO DE ENVEJECER
-FUTURE TENSE REVIEW

A)  AP HOUSEKEEPING/EXAM NUTS AND BOLTS PREP:
Mira el enlace número setenta y nueve por abajo...AP EXAM CHECKLIST...Este es un documento que TIENES que rellenar ANTES del día del examen (el 22 de mayo a las cuatro) y tener disponible toda la información incluida para utilizar.  You will do this for EACH of your AP tests.  If you have a printer, print it and fill it out now to use for the AP test...you will need it on test day.  If you do not have a printer, no worries, just write down all of the information that they have on it to use during the AP test...but the time to do it is not on the day of the AP test...so let´s just do it now, if you haven´t already, so that if you have a problem getting any of the info you have time to research it out and get help prior to the test.  Again, if you filled one out for another AP test, it won´t help you here:  you have to do a separate one for EACH different test.

The app is out!  La aplicación ha estrenado.  Si no la has cargado, hazlo en seguida. The walk-through video for what to do on AP test day and how to use the app is located below...it is #75.  (I know this is repetitive...if you have already done so and are comfortable with the app, you are good...just don´t know what else you may have going on and it is THAT important so I keep posting it in case you have not done it yet.

A reminder that optional bonus lists are due to be emailed to me (theisr@limashawnee.com) no later than this Friday, May 15th.
Can´t accept them late, so please get them in by then.

B)  Cultura:  El Concepto de Envejecer
Next week we will be doing a cultural comparison simulation practice on the concept of how the elderly are viewed in Spanish-speaking countries.  Today you will read an article on the common Hispanic concept of multiple generaciones viviendo juntos en un hogar (home) y los beneficios y desafíos...notice this talks about Hispanics in the US.    Read the article at link 80.  Look up words you don´t understand to expand your vocabulary.

C)  Gramática:  El Futuro  (Future Tense Review and Quiz)

Do you remember how to form future tense (what WILL happen, what you WILL do) regulars and irregulars?  Let´s make sure.  If you do remember, great!  If not, I had reviewed how to do it with Spanish IV and I have posted links to my review lessons and some really good practice material below.  See links 82-86 to review and then show me that you can use FUTURE tense by taking the QUIZ over Future regulars, future irregulars, and probability in the present under My Activities and Quizzes.  It talks about what people WILL do when Coronavirus is a bit more under control.  Please submit quiz by tonight at 11:59 pm.

Did you know...
When talking about events that haven´t happened yet after certain prepositions, we use present subjunctive.  See how I have used it below in combination with the future tense to talk about what people WILL do once that situation occurs.

You can use the unit links (there are nine of them!) at https://studyspanish.com/grammar to review prior to your placement test before college, or to brush up on ANY grammar topic that you know frustrates you before the AP test.  Use the units on the side...they start out easy in the first ones and then get into the difficult topics in the later units.  Look them over...there is an easy to follow lesson page with examples on everything you can think of, followed by a practice activity.  It´s all in one place!  Forget conditional tense or imperfect tense?  It´s there!  Want to review direct/indirect objects!  There!  Past subjunctive?  There!  Por / Para?  There!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

jueves, el catorce de mayo

METAS y OBJECTIVOS:   1.  Cultura: Escuchar, Ver, y Leer     2. Gramática:  Los Perfectos (Present, Past, and Future...what has happened, what had happened, and what WILL HAVE happened)

Today I am going to post a review of future perfect (which will actually review nearly ALL the indicative perfects and is something that we could use a refresher on before the AP test).  See enlaces 90-93.  If you think you already have this down, try link 93 for starters, the self quiz, because it does a good job of incorporating present subjunctive with adverbial clauses that haven´t happened yet and future perfect...which will WOW them on the AP test if you can comfortably throw in.
Just want to make sure that on the AP test you are able to accurately use future and advanced future perfect structure...going beyond present tense.  Again, if you have specific grammar issues that you want to look over, I have posted link 81 which is organized on the left by topic and has a  really simple lesson and some guided practice with answers for every topic there is in grammar...only use the free stuff...that´s totally optional.

3.  Future perfect quiz....complete the quiz on future perfect under My Activities and Quizzes by 11:59 pm tonight (Thursday) so I know you´ve got it.

You never know what may come in handy for the cultural comparison!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

viernes, el quince de mayo

METAS *goals* y OBJECTIVOS:  1.  Cultura/ Escuchar    2.  Repaso de Gramática

Today I want you to review conditional, conditional perfect, and conditional to express probability in the past.   I want to be sure that you can correctly express what YOU WOULD DO in a certain situation or what WOULD happen.

Intro:

So, many times we introduce a hypothetical situation with past subjunctive, and combine it with the conditional to tell what we WOULD do in a given situation.

If clauses in the present are viewed as concrete, they use INDICATIVE and may be combined with future to tell what one WILL do.  You just reviewed future.

If it rains tomorrow, I will not attend the tennis match.

If clauses in the past that are viewed as hypothetical use past subjunctive and often combine with the conditional to tell what one WOULD DO in said situation.

If we lived in Florida, we would be hot every day.

(How do we form past subjunctive...?  1. ellos form of preterite   2.  Take off the -ron    3. Cheerleader endings... -ra -ras -ra ´ramos rais ran)

I posted two OPTIONAL links...links 95 and 96, to review this concept of IF clauses, if need be.   This is totally optional and up to you if you feel you need to look at or not.

What´s NOT optional?  I want you to review conditional, conditional perfect, and conditional to express probability in the past today, and then take two easy quizzes to show me that you´ve got it down.

TWO QUIZZES:  (Conditional and Conditional Perfect, under My Activities and Quizzes, to be submitted by 11:59 pm tonight please)

I will post conditional and conditional perfect review resources below (links 97-104) for you to look over as much as need be, and you can spend as much or as little time as you need to do that, using all of the links or just the main ones you need...it is up to you, depending on how much review and re-teaching you may require to feel comfortable with conditional).  When you have refreshed your memory and feel ready,  I want you to show me that you know how to use conditional and conditional perfect by completing the QUIZZES under My Activities and Quizzes on CONDITIONAL TENSE and CONDITIONAL PERFECT TENSE.  They are pretty easy- I just want to know that you can use conditional prior to your AP test and placement test.  There will be TWO QUIZZES to complete.  Before you take the quizzes, be sure you can use/form conditional regulars, irregulars, and conditional perfect.  Remember that you can use conditional to express probability in the PAST, just like you can use FUTURE to express probability in the PRESENT.   Again, you do not have to use ALL of the review links I have posted (97-104) but I would at least briefly look over them to make sure I had it before taking the quizzes, as well as completing some of the pre-quiz practices with feedback at links 99 and 104...again you wouldn´t have to complete all, just enough to know you´ve got it down.)

Next week we will do simulations.

Please be sure you have downloaded the WLE app and have went through the WalkThrough video for using it on test day and logging in with your exam ticket if you haven´t already.

AP Housekeeping, Two Simulated Conversation Practices, Grammar Practice

1.  AP Housekeeping for the day:  Our exam is this Friday, May 22nd at 4 pm.  Let´s do the quick exam Walkthrough again to be sure we are ready (even if you have already done it- it will refresh your memory).  You should have downloaded the app by now.   Go to link 75 and re-watch the brief how-to walk through on what to do on exam day.  Use the app to practice...it is in practice mode and it takes very little time.  Remember that on the actual test day you will have 20 seconds to respond each time to the prompts in the simulated dialogue, and two minutes to speak on your cultural comparison.

2.  Simulated Conversation Exam Practice Activities for the day, links 105 and 106 (the second one is actually easier than the first) :  The first part of your exam is the simulated conversation.  It will be informal. On the exam, you will use the tú form to address the interlocutor (speaker).   All parts of it will be listening/speaking.  There will be no written prompts delivered.  The background info, etc., will all be delivered aurally (listening).  It will be very similar to how we have practiced minus the written prompts.  I am posting two good practice conversations for you today.  They are geared toward the normal format and not this year´s altered Coronavirus format, so I am telling you on the links where to begin so you skip the irrelevant set-up, but they are very close to what you will do this year and still very good because they still allow the 20 seconds of response time for you.  (This first one is from the simulation practice book we used in class., the second is from an old AP test.)

Start  the first conversation simulation at minute 2:22 for the first simulated conversation practice for the day.  The second one should be started at minute 2:35. You can use your phone to record yourself speaking and then play back your answers, and re-do as desired as practice. Have out any commonly used expression sheets or resources you plan to use during the actual AP test, or use the resource page scans from our practice book at link 107.  Answer the question first or respond as directed, then use the additional time to elaborate with any details you wish.  Try to fill as much of the time as possible, but once the task is done that they direct you to tell/answer, that is the main thing...just fill as much as possible with relevant info to show what you know.

. Remember, on test day, the app will take care of all the recording, etc., there will be no pausing and restarting, etc.  If you have practiced with the app, you understand.  I am having you start at minute 2:22 on the first and 2:35 on the second because that is when the activity starts...the prior stuff I am having you skip tells you to read the intro, etc., and obviously you will have nothing to read on this exam day so we are skipping that part for this practice.

3.  Grammar Practice of the Day:  Subjunctive in Relative Clauses (links 108 and 109)
Short but good and will refresh your memory about some advanced uses of subjunctive, good examples...this WOWS them on the AP test! Not to mention your college placement test is primarily grammar based, so good to review.

METAS y OBJECTIVOS:  AP simulation practice, AP CB Nuts and Bolts to be sure we´re ready to test on Friday, Cultura, Gramática

You have to fill out a separate one for each exam.  I´m sure I´ve had you do this in the past, but just double check to be sure that you did it, and that you know where the information is.  If you haven´t already, compile this and any notes you wish to use in ONE place to have ready to go on Friday.

2.  Cultura:  El Museo del Prado en España y el artista famoso español, Francisco Goya- the most important Spanish artist of the late 18th and early 19th centuries:  Links 112- 115.

3.  Repaso de Gramática:  enlace 116-118, Past Tense Indicative

4.  Simulated Dialog re-cap...enlaces 119-121...listen to my re-cap of the simulated dialogs from Monday´s practice with tips, translations, suggestions, and reminders. I´ll go over what they´re saying and give some good ideas.

Be sure to choose a quiet place to take your AP test and have your phone in Do Not Disturb mode if you are doing this on a phone...I am having trouble doing this because my dog won´t quit barking, kids keep coming in, and people keep calling me!  So learn from my experience and let people know you will be unavailable, find a QUIET place you can be ALONE to do this, tell your family that you have to be left alone during this, and put your pet somewhere it won´t bug you on test day.

OBJECTIVOS:  AP Simulation-Comparación Cultural, Repaso de Gramática, Cultura

Expresiones sugeridas:

Ser valorado/a/os/as...to be valued
ser valioso/a/os/as...to be valuable
merecen...they deserve
faltan...they lack
el respeto...respect
hay que + infinitivo...one must, one has to...
Es igual en...  It´s the same in...
Las semejanzas - the similarities
Es lástima que +present subjunctive...It´s a shame that...blah blah...
Muestran- they show
Demuestran - they demonstrate
cuidan a - they take care of...(someone)
poseer - to possess
la sabuduría- wisdom

A)  Give yourself FOUR minutes to plan your formal presentation.  (Suggestions: Make a t-chart or bosquejo / esquema (outline)/ write down or have out TRANSITIONS (link 127 has tons of suggestions) to use (words to connect thoughts together, be sure to name the actual places you are comparing!!!)

B) After four minutes of planning time, (time yourself!) record yourself speaking for two minutes, giving an oral class presentation to your class answering that question in a cultural comparison.

C) Repeat as needed.  I will give you examples, suggestions, etc. tomorrow about this cultural comparison.  Be sure you TIME yourself and try to get it all worked in (intro, body, summary) in the two minutes of speaking presentation, do not forget to use transition phrases and be formal!  (You have plenty of resources for these, but if you forget or do not, use link 127 as your go-to. )

2.  Gramática:  Pretérito/ Imperfecto again...self quiz with instant feedback and explanation at link 122 (this is excellent) and verbs that change meaning in preterite (123).

3. Cultura:  links 124-126.   I thought you might like to learn about the big differences in schools of Spain with schools in the USA. This is something you may not know much about right now.   The first two articles are super short but informative and interesting, the third deals more with the differences in school systems.  Interesting and possibly relevant info for the cultural comparison on the test on Friday.

jueves, el veintiuno de mayo

METAS y OBJECTIVOS:  AP Exam tomorrow, Simulated Dialog Re-Cap, Gramática, y Cultura

1.  AP EXAM NUTS AND BOLTS PREP: ESSENTIAL BEFORE TOMORROW!

AP exam is tomorrow at 4 pm but you need to log in with your e-ticket 1/2 hour before and be ready to go before that.  You will need to compile any notes/resources you want to use today so they are already out and ready to go for tomorrow...if you haven´t already, you must find a distraction free silent zone in your home today and go and sit there and do your Spanish so that you are used to it (this is SO important...trust me!  Barking dogs, screaming younger siblings, television, music, phone calls and texts, and other distractions are to be avoided as much as humanly possible.) Get everything laid out ahead of time, remind people that you cannot be disturbed tomorrow between 3 and 5 pm.

Practice with the World Language Exam App one more time today or tomorrow, early, just to refresh your memory.

You’ll take the exam using the AP World Languages Exam App (WLEA). The app will guide you through the exam step by step. It will automatically record your responses and submit them.

Tomorrow, you'll click on the link in your e-ticket 30 minutes before the start time for your exam and fill in some information. You’ll be prompted to select Start My Exam to launch the AP WLEA and to complete your exam.

What to have ready on exam day:

Required

e-ticket email (you’ll receive this two days before your exam)

Completed Exam Day Checklist, including AP ID  (HAVE THIS or at least ALL THE INFO ON IT written out and ready to go and in your place with your notes where you will be taking your exam...see it at link 111)

Device: An iOS or Android smartphone or tablet is required. The exam cannot be taken on a chromebook, laptop or desktop computers. Your iOS or Android smartphone or tablet must have:
AP World Language Exam App installed (available week of May 11)
Access to the internet by Wi-Fi or cellular data
At least 30 MB of available storage
At least 25% battery charge (or connection to a power source)
Browser: Chrome (recommended), Firefox, Safari, or Edge
Internet or cellular connection

Any notes you wish to use
Optional-A print, online, or app-based dictionary to look up words IS FINE! But you probably will not have time to use it.
Paper and pen/pencil to take notes and prepare for tasks
Optional: Headphones with microphone (headphones without a microphone won't work)

I want you to take a moment now and look at the links I posted on being ready to take the test tomorrow.  Links 128 and 129.

2.  Gramática:  Por o Para
I put a link (130) for a por and para activity that lets you try and then gives you instant detailed feedback about why you are wrong...if you are wrong, of course.

Optional New Extra Grammar/Verb/Vocab help site:  At link 131, I posted an all-in-one place grammar/verbs/vocab resource...if you scroll down to the bottom of that page you will see all the categories and can choose what you want/need.  This is arguably better than the older one I had previously posted (studyspanish.com) in my opinion.  It´s totally optional of course but if you are stressing over any particular grammar point or verb tense or just want to see some examples....or even after the AP test before you take your college placement test, here you go.  A strategy I like is to start out with their quiz with feedback at the bottom of each topic page and see how you do to save time, because it will give you instant feedback if you get them wrong, and then if you realize that you still really don quite get it, you can go back to the main explanation page.  It´s very good stuff.   So if you wake up tonight at three am...(don´t!) and are just beyond stressed because you forgot how to form imperfect (past) subjunctive or informal singular commands, it is there, it is quick and easy to understand.

To me, the cultural comparison is the main wild card of the AP test because we are not sure what exact area they will choose to ask about, BUT, the question should be fairly general and you have learned about many topics over the years and can stretch them to be at least somewhat applicable to many areas.  I have tried to give you a vast breadth of cultural knowledge and today I have three areas that I think you could stretch depending on what is asked to cover many questions.  We have Style/Fashion, Fidel Castro, ex-dictador cubano, and Science and Technology in Perú.  All short but give you potential fodder for the cultural comparison, depending on what is asked.  If in doubt tomorrow, remember that you can stretch many many topics to be at least somewhat applicable to their question, name at least the countries or person/ culture you are comparing, remember that you can compare your own community or any other place(s) in the world with which you are familiar, as long as you compare them with the mundo hispano, the Hispanic world (name the specific place)...(example...compare treatment of elderly in Spain with treatment of elderly in Japan).

I have my lesson with sugerencias/ apuntes at link 135 and my video lessons on this that I made for you at 136 - 138 to check out.  Don´t forget to use transition words, name both cultures you are comparing, compare both cultures about the same amount of time, and aim for an opening, body, and closing summary if possible.  You can compare semejanzas (similarities)  diferencias (differences) or both...if you just do one or ther other it is fine...just talk about how both cultures treat the issue about the same amount of time and name both cultures...it is fine.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

viernes, el veintidós de mayo:  PRESENTAR EL EXAMEN, LA CANCIÓN FINAL DEL CURSO, BUENA SUERTE Y ADIÓS

HOY ES EL DíA.  This is it!

EXAMEN DE AP  ESPAÑOL LENGUA Y CULTURA   (3:30 log in with e-ticket, 4:00 exam begins)

The most important thing is that you take the test today.

Just get your brain in Spanish mode a few hours before the test with any of those suggestions.

Have your quiet exam location already prepared with pencil/pen and paper for any notes you may wish to take (especially for planning your cultural comparison), any notes/ expressions/transition words out you may wish to use, be sure your device with the app loaded is ready to use, be sure you have your info for your checklist (link 129), make sure you have loaded the app and practiced with it on the device you will use, device is charged , watch the World Language Exam walk through one more time at link 76 because that will show you exactly what to do to take the test.

Tell everyone not to disturb you between 3 and 5 to be safe (no way will it take you that long!  It will probably take you  less than 20 minutes once the exam actually starts).  Keep pets and siblings away...sit in your testing environment and get used to it.  Turn off the t.v./radio/music.

Remember that you will have to use your e-ticket that was emailed to you by the college board 30 minutes before the exam start time (3:30 e-ticket, exam at 4:00).  Take a deep breath, RELAX, be CALM, and just do your best!  You will be great!!!
