SOUTHWEST NAMED MUSIC DEMONSTRATION SCHOOL FOR 2010-2013
The administration and music faculty at Southwest are proud to announce they have been named a Music Demonstration School by the Florida Department of Education for a three-year term beginning with the 2010-2011 school year. This is the third time that Southwest has been named a Music Demonstration school, also being named for three year terms in 1997-2000 and 2006-2009.
Being designated a Music Demonstration School recognizes a music program which is comprehensive in scope and outstanding in quality. It contributes to the overall excellence of the school environment, addresses the Sunshine State Standards for Music in exemplary ways, and promotes academic and aesthetic student achievement in music and other areas of the curriculum.
The music faculty and administration had to go through an extensive application process which included submission of curriculum, schedules, MPA evaluations, performance recordings, and videos of each teacher giving instruction at multiple class levels throughout the pass school year. Upon the successful application, a representative of the Department of Education visited the school and observed the music program.

ORCHESTRA METHOD BOOKS FOR 2010-2011
A class set of music method books is available for use in class, but you will want to purchase your own at a local music store for home practicing.
Beginning "Concert Orchestra" - Artistry in Strings, Book 1, available with or without CD
Intermediate/Advanced "Chamber Orchestra" – Artistry in Strings, Book 2, available with or without CD
INSTRUMENT RENTAL
Instrument Rental is $25 per semester. We have a limited number of school-owned instruments.
PERFORMANCE ATTIRE FOR FORMAL CONCERTS AND M.P.A.
For both ladies and gentlemen:
White Tux Shirt
Black Dress Pants. Ladies may choose to wear a floor lenghth black skirt instead.
Bow Tie and Cummerbund provided by school
Black Socks for Men and Black Hose for Women
Closed Toe Shoes
Note to all: No excessive hair decorations, no excessive jewelry. You are not to detract from the performance. The audience should be attentive to the music, not to any "wild" concert uniform or hair colors/styles.
