Step 3: Once
again, the cell is having to "spend" an ATP to push the
process of glycolysis forward. Keep this in mind for later when
you try to figure out how many ATP are gained by glycolysis.
The enzyme that makes this reaction happen is called phosphofructokinase
and the product of the reaction is fructose-1,6-biphosphate. The
1 and the 6 indicate which carbon the phosphate groups are attached
to.
