
Step 6: Finally, ATP
is being generated instead of spent. In this reaction, catalyzed
by the enzyme phosphoglycerate kinase, a molecule of ADP gets phosphorylated
by having an energy rich phosphate group from the 1,3-biphosphoglyceric
acid transferred to the ADP to make ATP. This transfer of energy
from a compound with an energy-rich phosphate is referred to
as a substrate-level phosphorylation. Later on, ATP will be generated
